Glad to hear that your CB-1450 is keeping you warm and nice burn times.  I don't have the 1450, I have the 1400 but it works great.  I clean mine every 2 weeks including removing the ash from the reaction chamber.  I have found that there was no change in operation and the amount of ash found in the reaction chamber.   Roger

Clean mine once a week but we have been in the single digits every night and not above freezing till today in like months.i could get called out for a long extended job and not get home sometimes so dont want the wife to get stuck doing it,even though she knows how no reason to let that happen.

I have found with the 1400 that the colder it is, I get a more complete and cleaner burn.  I'll try to clarify.  If the temps are above 30, the coal bed gets too deep so I have to try to cut back on the amount of wood I put in it.  If that doesn't do the trick, I'll have to remove some of it.  But, when the temps are colder, lets say around single digit or lower, the OWB cycles more often with a hotter burn.  Thus, the coal bed doesn't get as deep (stays around the 3 inch depth), the creosote buildup is minimized and much less ash.

What temps are you operating your 1450?  My high set-point is 190 and low set-point is 185 with a 50 second pulse every 8 minutes.

Okay, with that $0.98/gal price, you're aging yourself.   ;)

I love these units. I can get through 24 hours and not even fill my firebox all the way. Never had to remove ash and very little cleaning of reaction chamber. Been through about 7 cord this year. Time to restock and say bye bye to the propane man. E2400 is the boss

Really it's not the proper question 4 bedrooms ,kit,living,familyroom,2 teens, wife clothes washer it heats the hot domestic hot water all with no trouble at 70 inside, and we sure had a winter last year!!  Don't go to big that's what I thought that it was small but you want it to run a little, used maybe 5-6 cords not a good judge of wood amounts.LOVE IT!
