Pulse setting
« on: December 07, 2014, 02:57:31 PM »

What are u guys setting this at? Me I just changed to every 15 min because I'm burning mostly locust that's dry but I always seems this wood needs to be mixed with others to burn great when we are having not so cold temps here,40s day just below freezing at night, sure this will change but I never had trouble keeping a good coal bed, this was a big pile of locust I cut up and next time I will go out of my way to mix with some oak,ash etc.dont get me wrong locust is one of the hottest burners just experience over the years ,what do you think? This is on the e-classics

I never seem to have to pulse any closer than 15 minutes for 50 seconds no matter what kind of wood I'm burning with my E2400 and it never goes out.
I think if you pulse too often you burn away your coal bed and can't maintain it, then you can't get good high reaction chamber temperatures.

Well running 15 min pulse cycles and working great, burn cycles are about every hour to hour and a half, everyone's heat load is different, good coal bed never went out since, put 5-6 pieces of wood in which is like 1/3 or less in firebox and runs over 12hs between loads with a burn time in 4-5 hr times and plenty of wood left for say 2-3 hrs.

With the temps on the mild side so far this winter (we're to be in the 30's and 40's for better part of this week - last week we were in the 30's) I'm pulsing at 50 seconds every 10 minutes.  I'm going to try to extend it a bit to see if I see any difference.  What re you folks heating in square footage plus what's the age of your home?   I'm heating slightly over 3000sqft (soon to be extended to 4000sqft)and my DHW of an 1840's farmhouse with okay to decent insulation.  My wood usage since mid October is around a cord and a half of a mix of hardwoods.  Roger

I added on to my 1850 farmhouse about 1500sq' insulated both but old side just 3/4 foam outside so not sure all living space total but say maybe 2000' domestic hot water running since nov when I got it going maybe less then 1/2 cord for sure, working perfect with 15 min pulse with 95% locust.im on a burn cycle of at least 1 hour to 1 1/2 hour between cycles

My pulse timer is set at 25 sec every 60 min.   Makes plenty of charcoal.   Summer I was doing 260 seconds every hour.

What make and model do you guys use for your pulse option? I'm currently just using a thermostat.
