Equipment / Dump Trailer Battery?
« on: November 29, 2018, 06:47:59 PM »
Looking for a replacement battery for my 14' dump trailer. Who's running what and what are the recommendations? My trailer does not see daily use so I do not have a trickle charge to it from my truck. Thanks!

Equipment / Skid Steer Root Grapple Buckets
« on: April 20, 2018, 07:03:19 PM »
I was going to revive the 2016 thread but thought better of it as things have changed and the cost of steel has went up.....or at least that's what it looks like by the price of the new grapples.

I have an old 60" Titan root grapple with the double thumbs. Solid grapple, a little bent up but no complaints. It has the greasable pivot points and cost me a little under $900 shipped back about 8 years ago. The same grapple now is $1579 shipped.

So my question is who is running what and what did you pay including freight? Im looking for a 72" or bigger with double thumbs and greasable pivot points. Reason being I have a bigger machine now.Titan has this one:

I'd like to stay under $2k

Regulations / The Letter.......
« on: March 24, 2018, 06:37:07 PM »
At least someone is trying.

He says he sent this to President Trump this past week and "If you desire, please feel free to copy any part of our letter and contact your congressman, senators, and also President Trump yourself.  The more they hear from us, the more likely we are to restore our freedoms!"

Dear President Trump:

It seems that for the EPA, “even wood isn’t green or renewable enough anymore”.

According to Forbes, “The EPA has recently banned the production and sale of 80 percent of America’s current wood-burning stoves, the oldest heating method known to mankind and mainstay of rural homes and many of our nation’s poorest residents. The agency’s stringent one-size-fits-all rules apply equally to heavily air-polluted cities and far cleaner plus typically colder off-grid wilderness areas such as large regions of Alaska and the American West.”
https://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/2014/01/29/epas-wood-burning-stove-ban-has-chilling-consequences-for-many-rural-people/#739173ec7ee0

President Trump, I am one of your strongest supporters. I now represent a large group of the wood burning industry, and I would like to request that you reverse these EPA regulations on our industry, which went into effect January 2016. These regulations are described in detail here:  https://www.epa.gov/residential-wood-heaters/final-new-source-performance-standards-residential-wood-heaters

It is much wiser to institute these regulations on a local level, such as in urban areas. The EPA under President Obama greatly overreached by instituting these regulations on a national level. At one hearing I attended, participants from rural Michigan demonstrated (rather embarrassingly for the EPA) how people who burn wood live in rural areas where they do not have access to cheap natural gas, and they live in areas that are not densely populated; therefore, emissions from burning this renewable fuel are harmless. Note that wood burning is “carbon neutral”, since the carbon dioxide emitted from wood burning equals the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed by the tree when it was growing.

This wood burning industry consists of 2.4 million homes (12 percent of all homes) that burn wood as their primary heating fuel. The industry also consists of over 50 manufacturers, although due to this recent EPA regulations, some of these manufacturers have exited the industry, many through bankruptcy.

I see that your administration is removing EPA regulations that are harmful to the American economy. This article lists 67 rules your administration is removing: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/10/05/climate/trump-environment-rules-reversed.html

I would like to request that you add these wood burning regulations to your list of EPA regulations that you will reverse.

Please let me know – I have over 60,000 customers who follow my new company and I would like to inform them via our newsletters and announcements of your willingness to reverse these regulations.

Thank you,
Warren Walborn

Wood Doctor / Water Treatment
« on: November 12, 2016, 05:56:08 AM »
Going back quite away but does anyone remember the powdered boiler treatment that Wood Doctor sold for their boiler plate stoves?

My question is.....what was the yellow paper like test strip included with each bottle? What type of material or what exactly was it?

Hawken Energy, support only / Now That Hawken's Gone......
« on: October 09, 2016, 02:44:22 AM »
Hawken Energy is out of business!

Owners, what are your thoughts?

My stove is only a year old and I thought they would still be in the game after they added their EPA compliant line of stoves. I'd like to say I'm pissed off but I kind of expected something like this to happen. Especially after being a Wood Doctor owner. In other words, I bought the stove for the stove and never figured the warranty in whatsoever.

I'm curious as to what caused Hawken's demise?  I see the company was up for auction back in June. I'm wondering if anyone acquired it as a whole or if it was parted out?

They defiantly talked a good game.

Hawken Energy, support only / Setting Differential HE1100/2100
« on: January 14, 2016, 02:56:36 PM »
Anyone adjust their temperature differential on the HE1100 or HE2100?  I believe the factory setting is 20 degrees. 160 degrees on 180 degrees off. I plan on adjusting mine and I believe its adjusted with a dial inside/under the cover of the Honeywell aquastat. Anyone know? Hawken has yet to call me back with an answer.
Thanks

Equipment / Rugged Made Splitters
« on: December 04, 2015, 06:35:49 AM »
Seen these splitters on craigslist. I'm interested in the 37 ton but don't know much about them.

I inquired with the company (ruggedmade.com) and found they have no dealers and only ship out of Boston and somewhere in Oregon. They ship to commercial address that "HAS TO HAVE A LOADING DOCK, OTHERWISE THE DRIVER WILL JUST TURN AROUND AND LEAVE", or shipping terminal (their choice), or curbside residential for an added charge $$$$$. They come in a crate and you assemble.

Anyone own one of these? If so what was your buying experience like and how do you like the machine?

I currently own a close to 15 year old Speedco 35ton and I'm looking to upgrade to something newer, about the same caliber.

Any suggestions for other brands? No Swisher, Troy-built, etc......Thanks

Hawken Energy, support only / Check your door gasket
« on: October 27, 2015, 06:47:29 AM »
Apparently Hawken ran out of hi temp silicone when they finished my HE2100 stove. I bought it in May and fired it about a week ago.  About two days after firing it I had a boil over on a day when it was breezy, about 15mph winds. I traced the problem to the door gasket which was only "tacked" in at THREE corners with silicone.

Just FYI

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Big Door Option
« on: May 12, 2015, 11:39:35 AM »
From Ridgewood on FB:

BIG DOOR OPTION FOR NEW STOVE OWNERS!
Our newly released "Big Door Option" is something for new stove owners to consider. This door measures 24"X32" as compared to our current stoves with 24"X24" and 18"X18" doors. The "Big Door" stretches all the way down to the bottom of the firebox and allows customers easier access to ash removal and makes it easier to get bigger wood into the firebox. With the bigger door, we've added a double door latch system to make sure the door stays firmly closed. We still offer our original size doors.
