Central Boiler / 5036 boiler has corrosion
« on: November 07, 2020, 05:29:17 AM »
Well I found that my door sealing area at the bottom corners has rusted quit a bit where the rope gasket seals Ive seen moister there in the summer months, was wondering if anyone else may have had this same problem. As to the summer months we run ours all year because we also heat our hot water. We have been running our boiler on a nonstop basis for over 11 years.:(

Electronics / WiFi Thermostat to control Central Boiler
« on: February 06, 2016, 05:13:17 AM »
I had post earlier about a RTH8500D thermostat as I had stated not sure if possible would like to use the thermostat to control just the air handler for the heat and have the heatpump set as the backup heat not the Electric strip's if this is possible great, but I did not want 2 thermostat's like I had setup before. The current Honeywell RTH8500D is working great as it is setup now I just dont have backup heat if the boiler goes out. Any suggestion would be aprreciated. :-\

Electronics / Honeywell RTH8500D for use with central boiler
« on: February 02, 2016, 04:09:44 AM »
Ive had a 2 wire thermostat piggybacked in to my Honeywell thermostat so in the winter I have the heat pump set to 67 degree's and use the 2 wire thermostat to control the heat in the house by just cutting the air handler fan on and off, I want to do away with the 2 wire thermostat to the honeywell and just use it. Right now I have it working that way but I had to disconnect the control wires for the heat pump. Every thing is working OK but I had wanted to have the heat pump act as my backup in case the boiler went out just couldnt keep the compressor from trying to come on. Ill try to post a picture later this morning. :bash:

« on: February 10, 2014, 01:39:45 PM »
Is there any good points to putting a rain shield above the outlet of the Chimney or is it not recommended I put one above mine a couple of year's ago its about 8-10 inch's above the outlet. I did have a Chimney fire 4 day's ago and noticed that i had some build up on the stainless steal cover I had installed that was smoldering. Thanks for any input :)

Central Boiler / My 5036 appears to burning a lot of wood at night
« on: January 25, 2014, 05:36:30 AM »
This is the first year that Ive had the boiler burn completely out overnight, that Ive had to reload/relight it in the morning we have had a lot of cold morning's 5 and 6 degree's which might be my problem. I think my wood that I have might be getting overly seasoned burning up very quickly. Im going to try to find some greener wood to mix in with my very dry wood. :-\

Central Boiler / Thought I had a leak in my 5036
« on: January 10, 2014, 06:41:31 AM »
I went out this morning to load my boiler up for the day and decided to check my water level indication I had closed off the valve to it the other day, when i opened the valve i saw no water level raise up in it I went ahead and installed a new piece of tubing still nothing I went ahead and put some water in it and did see the level make it into the bottom  of the sight glass I looked around the inside of the boiler saw nothing then looked on the right side and saw water leaking out from behind the door that covers the circulating pump. I found a drain valve on the discharge side of my pump had gone bad I have since installed a plug until I can get a new valve. Im going to have to put some inhibitor back in it shortly. I think I will start inspecting behind the door more frequently :-[

Central Boiler / 5036 Hot water Plate exchanger
« on: December 12, 2013, 04:29:51 AM »
I know Ive mentioned this before in another post somewhere but my hot water return line to the boiler was cool this morning Ive checked inline strainer and found no pluggeg there, I had to shut off the water going to my heat exchager to force as much as I could the the plate exchager this worked i guess Im going to try to reverse the line's going to the plate exchager and see if this helps. :'(

Central Boiler / Chimney fire the other night on our 5036
« on: January 25, 2013, 04:23:48 PM »
I think I loaded to much wood in the boiler the other night and some must have gotten toward's the back of the boiler on the other side of the low point baffle, Had the door open while placing some wood in the front I happened to look up and saw sparks and flames coming out of the chimney. I set the thermostat down to close the damper and shut the door it went right out. ::)

Central Boiler / Water change in a 5036
« on: November 17, 2012, 07:18:48 AM »
Ive seen several post about not doing a full water flush/change at 3 year's if the water is still clear and not showing any noticable rust from the drain. I checked this morning with my kit which I got last april, Ph showing about a 9 did the nitrite test it took 31 drop's. The water I got at the drain on bottom of boiler after  rising the jar was pretty clear had a couple of rust partical's and some white speack's floating in the water. This boiler has been going none stop since march of 2009. :-\
