Enough Wood?
« on: March 29, 2015, 07:53:25 PM »

Was wondering how many have enough wood for next season. I like to have wood cut, split and stacked for a year before burning but that isn't happening this year. With this being my first year with a OWF, I've used more than I thought I would. So, I'm burning wood that was supposed to be for next year.

This season I've burned 9 cords. If weather is average I will be done burning in about 2 weeks, getting rid of some punky stuff in the process. Sure, I will burn a little gas but not much.

I'm thinking I will burn 9 to 10 cords next season but only have 7 cut, split and drying right now. I have enough standing dead Ash and Elm to get to 10 cords but will it be dry and ready to burn Feb.? The planters have to roll by April 9 so if the wood isn't cut by then, it will be mid may before I get back to cutting.

How os everyone else doing?

I have enough. I'm tempted to sell some, but I'm a scavenger and never know where my next load is coming from. My cutting buddy has a 6048 and he goes thru a lot more than I do. But we always work together and split everything. He has a bobcat w/grapple, and I have dump trucks , so it works pretty good.

I'm guessing I have about 50 cords piled up, but he needs more wood, so I'll just keep collecting.

The Ash is already dead right?
5 or 6 months is enough seasoning for me.
By February I'ttl be sittin for 10 months
I'm gonna cut 7-8 cord for myself, now,, to burn next November-April.
If I cut more I'll sell it.

April 9th? Where yah at Bud Man?

Here if we planted that early crop insurance and the seed companies would laugh at us if we said something about free seed for replanting after it got frosted off. Depending on the spring even the last week of April can be questionable far as soil temps.

Yah, it can be done by adding it to your signature like you've already done or it can be added to the personal text line in the profile settings where on yours it says "smoke em if yah gottem."

If I had the right clearances I would change "personal text" to "location"

I live on the long and lonesome highway east of Omaha that Bob Seger sings about. Ate at the restaurant several times when it was still open.

Our crop insurance date is 4/9. Ain't nobody laughing about it here. Just hoping it's fit to go to the field.

This is my first year with my OWB and I burned more wood then I thought as well. I'm still burning and based on the long range forecast I will be until late April. I have around 14 face cords cut, not split or stacked, starting that process now. Plan to cut at least another 10 face cords. I want to ensure I have more then enough for next winter.

Ayuh,.....     Next season,..??..??    I'm hopin' I've got enough wood for the rest of This season,.....

I've got a couple cord in the back wood yard, considerably less at the boiler's pile,...
'n 10 cord in rounds a few miles away, unfortunately, still under a few feet of snow, 200 yards from the plowed road,.....

Warm days a comin',....   Oughta be able to get to it in another couple weeks,...

Did go look at a house lot We're gonna do the site work on,....
A few decent hardwood trees comin' out, that I'll get some of,....
Quite a few Poplars,....
Don't really want 'em, but hey, delivered to the back wood lot, I'll burn 'em for fall, 'n spring wood,...

Here the ash is dead enough you can burn it the day you drop it, tests under 20%.  When I run out of it I'll be in trouble, the amount of mud we've have here the last couple years makes it impossible to make any head way without frozen ground.  Then the crops get in the way.

No Planters rolling here, maybe May 9?  Still working on them and in no rush, lakes still half ice.

Lakes, here,,, got 30 inches of ice.
Usually they are open at the edges and you need a 2x 6 to get out on the ice to fish.
But..... it's great for felling and bucking as the crust is froze like pavement,in the woods
Been getting a leg up on next years wood.

Unless you're logging most of the videos I've seen for dropping trees suggest cutting higher then cutting the stump off low. Easier to keep an eye on the tree if you not bent over so far.
