I think there may be a bit of confusion here.  The OP hasn't put up his pic yet.  The "steamer" up there is someone else.

(is that a UFO in the upper right?)  :o

Drag,,I'm lookin out the same window right now and don't see the space ship  :o :o

We are not alone..... I'm going for the tin foil on the head,, so they can't read my mind ???

My son is hopefully going to get the pictures added here for me, not that great on computers. As far as " smokeless" goes, that is what my dealer claimed, though an owner of the same model furnace told me otherwise.P& M's website shows pictures of the Ultimizer and states in the pictures, using it as a campfire and no smoke coming out of the stack.   http://www.portageandmainboilers.com/#!pm-ultimizer-series/c5zz
It is too cold here to tape and measure the square footage of the two houses, my point is that the old Empyre was rated for heating 8000 square feet, this one is rated for 15000 square feet.the Empyre I could load up with wood at night, had no problem holding the load until morning, even at -40 to -45 some nights. This furnace I cannot load before 9:00 p.m, or it will not last until morning, and it holds more wood than the Empyre. Thank God it has only gone down to -24 here so far.As I see in other posts about the 2840, I believe this furnace was simple overrated for how much it could do. At no time did I say this furnace was junk, on the contrary I find it burns much cleaner than the Empyre, less wood and less ashes. I am just totally disappointed in the claim for heating 15000 square feet, having to load it later at night to help it still be warm in the morning. I have tried suggestions from both Slim ,and Brian at P & M. I have cut the air down to 1/2, helped with the burn time somewhat, but slower to recover and more ashes stay in the furnace then since it is not working like a forge.
Another question was about upgrades to this furnace. It was built on Sunday, August3, yes Sunday it is stamped. It has the spacers between the bricks, as well as the catch for the front door.Again tonight i had to work from top and bottom to clear out between the bricks
On a final note, sorry if I have rubbed you the wrong way Slim, I don't feel my troubles are self-inflicted, I think that if this furnace held double the amount of water it would easily heat it, would easily heat 15000 square feet, and work much better for my situation. My maple syrup evaporator has a lot of firebrick in it, and works much on the same principal of holding the heat after it has been burning for an hour or so, I can burn through probably 25-30 cords of wood, and only remove 5 gallon pail of ash because everything has been used up so well.
I spoke with a neighbour tonight who had the same Empyre, now has the Heatmaster 1000e, told me it was a world of difference, used less wood, recovery times were better, and most importantly only loads every 12 hours, even on the weekend when I loaded 7 wheelbaroow loads, he only did two trips, also heating two large farmhouses. http://s1133.photobucket.com/user/brucel1/media/DSC_0601800x530.jpg.html?o=0 (Click next twice to see all three photo's)

Absolutely looks like steam, Zoom in and look at just above the stack, notice that for about a foot over the stack it is perfectly clear, any moisture in the wood or condensation in the boiler will then appear as the exhaust cools and condenses. Mr Maple what you are seeing is condensation and not smoke period.

Well ya its gonna smell like smoke there is some mixed with the steam, but I bet if you burn in the summer like the picture on the portage and main website where they are using it as a campfire there won't be steam and and hardly any smoke. Heck look at the vent on a house when the furnace runs and check out the steam, and that's coming off of NG or propane and super clean burning but its condensing in the furnace or pulling air out of your house full of moisture.
