pops69,
I'd be prepared to pay whatever your state's sales tax might be.
Three of us bought 250's back in the fall of '11 and before fall of '12 came around, I had a letter in my hand from the socialist state of Michigan saying that I owed a 6% "import tax" ($1800 bucks, $600 for each boiler) on all three boilers.
The "import tax" (or fee, can't remember what they called it) just happened to be the same amount as our states sales tax.
I wouldn't want to dissuade anyone from buying a P&M. They are the best built boiler out there.
I do want everyone to understand, however, that when you give your SS# to ANY company that imports goods from Canada, you might be responsible for the fees associated with said imports, depending on what your state's tax laws are. I checked with my tax preparer, as well as our states attorney, and both confirmed I was responsible and there was positively no way I could get out of paying.
I was very fortunate that the other two guys accepted their responsibilities and paid their share of the tax burden.
Even with the extra almost $600/stove, we still got a good deal on great boilers.
