Looking for some WD 5000 knowledge
« on: February 12, 2012, 10:15:22 PM »

It finally got a little cold this week.  Now that I have officially got cold working in the pole barn, it just might be time to heat it with the OWB.  I'm thinking just an air exchanger.  I don't want to run the water all the time when I am away for work, so a 50\50 antifreeze mix would probably be my next option so the shop lines don't freeze when not in use.  Does anyone know what the capacity of a HE 5000 is?  I would say ethylene glyclol.  Second question is would this be a good option for the steel and pex tubing?  I mean keep it from rusting or deteriorating the pex?  Any other thoughts my brothers?

I would use a heat exchanger and only put antifreeze in the pole barn loop.

That would work and is how I have mine but you must run the boiler loop 24/7.

 HE5000 holds 145 gallons, I had one.
Actually, I still have the manual for it in Adobe shoot me an e-mail address if you are interested and I'll shoot you a copy.

Should use Propylene Glycol  but if you use it do NOT use boiler treatment that comes with WD.

Put the heat exchanger at the boiler.

Yep, can do it that way for sure, just never really thought about it.

I have a pic of exchanger at boiler if you want to see it but best to put a strainer in line between shut off valves with pump inside  then exchanger.
