General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Hardy H5
« on: April 10, 2019, 02:40:19 PM »
Hi Fellas!  Any idea how much a used Hardy H5 would be worth.  I bought in brand new in 2012 and paid around 10 grand at the time for the unit and the install.  I'm selling my house and either the new owner will buy it or I will sell it.  Just wondering what you guys think and what the market is for a conventional boiler.  It's been a workhorse and has performed great.  Thanks in advance for any replies!

I have a H5 and have to keep a pretty close eye on the air inlet.  My 1st year I let that get blocked and the blower got all gummed up and quit working.  I keep a long screw driver handy and clear the hole from the back and keep all the ashes out of the way out front.  I scoop ashes nearly every day..

Equipment / Re: Work Gloves
« on: December 28, 2017, 09:26:15 AM »
I saw a family member at Xmas and he had a pair of winter works gloves made by Give'r. Google it.  I plow through gloves all year round and have yet to find anything that will hold up and not wear through the finger tips.  I put his winter gloves on and wow was I impressed..  He's a construction guy who works outside. I am seriously thinking about giving these a try....

I've been getting these too.  I thought maybe it was because I bought some stuff online but maybe not..

I burned 6 cord of tamarack last year in my boiler and loved it. Good burn times and easy to handle. I would have no issues burning it again.

I have a panel on my H5 that is about 5 years old.  I don't think it's insulated at all I just thought it was used to cover the gap between the 2 doors.  I will look at it closer when I get home tonight..  If I remember right it looks like it just slides in and is stainless like the outside is.

In defense of Ridgewood, its not always possible for an owner of a business to check up on the contracted installers. Could be the guy felt confident with his position with the company and decided to start cutting corners to make himself a little extra.
It will be up to the owner to make things right.  He will be judged on how he handles this situation going forward.  Any good business man will make things right. Sounds like he has taken care of things in the past so hopefully this will continue and this will be dealt with correctly.

Yesterday in Northern MN we had -26 in the morning and today it's almost 40..  I would imagine this will slowly make it your way soon..  It's going to be 50 next week and it's time to start getting seeds started for the garden!  Hopefully you guys out east get a slow gentle melt with all your snow!!

Ok, I'll play. My guess is March 31. When do you typically shut her down?  Sure is a bummer to see the pile dwindle down..  Happens to us all!!

Cull is undesirable.  In the farming world a Cull animal is sold or goes to freezer camp :D

Nothing is wrong with a six or seven digit salary as long as you don't receive it on the backs of taxpayers.  I mean real taxpayers!!!!  The ones that make this country go!  The small business owners, farmers and ranchers who take all of the dang risk and hope it all works out.  We had a calf today in a blinding snowstorm and we've been working our buts off today to keep it going.  It represents profit ( or loss ) to our small farm.  Nothing wrong with high salaries as long as you earn them.  The majority in this country USED to earn their way, not so much anymore.  Can you tell I have a real problem with big government and all that it "offers"?  Leave me the hell alone, I'll make my own way......vpm
not to get off subject here but we had a calf born 2 days ago when the temp was -26F. We've been trying to keep her alive since then. Finally got her to nurse from momma today.  Had to bottle feed her for a day. We don't plan to calve this early but it came from a cow we bought last summer and didn't know she was preggo  :-\ I am also disgusted by the EPA and their new rules.  the people in the EPA should have their gas turned off and then I out and try to figure out how to keep their families warm!!

I'm 39 yo, married father of 3 boys (9,7 & 5).  5'9" 160 lbs with short hair and bushy beard.  Live in N Central MN but grew up in Minneapolis.  Always wanted to have some elbow room and 3 years ago bought an old farm in wife's hometown of 2,000 people.  Absolutely, love not having neighbors and spend as much time as I can outdoors.   My day job is selling Electrical Wire and Cable which I have done for the last 18 years..  I spend my spare time feeding farm animals (this helps feed my 3 growing boys), gardening,  cutting fire wood, recently took up bow hunting and the list goes on and on...  oh, and I have a big German Shepherd named Ozmon and he keeps an eye on things...
