Just waiting on dealer to come and give me his sales pitch and estimate, told him no hurry. Any forewarning on how high a sticker shock to expect?

Playing with the idea of getting a geothermal system in place, not so much for heating end as for cooling, temperatures here today broke 107 degrees!!!!!  Would the two systems work together in the wintertime,or would I be causing trouble with creosote issues etc due to furnace not having to do all of the heating?

Reviving this old thread as I couldn't find this gun at Home Depot, can't even order it online to ship to stores. Any other recommendations for something similar to spray oil into the furnace, coat stable cleaner chute etc?
Thanks

I am curious as to why bother taking a water sample? I took a sample October 2016, never heard back any results until about January 2017 when I contacted Heatmaster, told me everything was fine with sample,. Now latest sample  November 2017, it is now April, soon time to shut down and I have heard nothing again this season, yet they have my email,my mailing address and my telephone number.

Informed me when I sold mine that warranty is NOT transferable, sounded kind of cheap to me

I have referred many to Heatmaster, and told them to stay away from previous brand. My dealer of that brand was absolutely useless,Rory blamed me for everything,as well as someone who is no longer on this site. I couldn’t be any happier with the stove, and would not trade it for two or three free stoves of previous brand

You have heard one good post, now it is time for the bad. I had a BL 4044 for one season, was so elated to see that thing go down the road to the next sucker I can't even describe in words.
Started out with an Empyre 450, rated at 8000 square feet, did the job but liked it's wood, not a real specific measure, but took 2 wheelbarrow loads at 10:00 at night to last until 6:00 a.m when it was real cold.
P&M BL 4044, took 3 wheelbarrow loads at 10:00 at night, furnace would be down to 140 and screaming for more wood by 5:00 a.m.
Now Heatmaster MF 20000 E,  2 wheelbarrow loads at 8:00 at night, didn't have to worry about more wood before 10:00 or 11:00 next morning, even now into drier wood 1 wheelbarrow load of wood for a 12-14 hour burn.
In summary, first furnace did the job, just really hard on wood, second furnace, took even more wood,p.i.t.a to get ashes to go through the firebrick, had to makeshift a poker out of threaded rod,to which I would be breathing in ash dust from trying to clear the brick. Rory at the company told me I was burning the wrong type of wood ( imagine that, dry elm) ,loading too often, but what do you do when you need more heat?,must have too big a heat load on the furnace, yet the smaller rated Empyre did the job,and placing the wood in wrong, how do you figure that?
Now with my Heatmaster, doesn't matter what type of wood I toss in,how I toss it in,and the ashes are a fine powder that drops through the grates, about a 5 gallon pail full weekly, less than half the amount of the previous two furnaces.
It has been a cold winter, getting down in wood, but even my wife remarked if we still had the P@M we would have been out in the cold a long time ago

Okay,so now this furnace is really impressing me,we are into wood that's been under cover in the shed now for  about 4 years, figured we should use it before it got too dry? Anyway,as stated before, first furnace would do an 8 hour burn on two wheelbarrow loads of wood, second furnace 6-7 hours on three wheelbarrow loads of wood, present furnace 12-14 hours on two wheelbarrow loads of wood, but now with the really dry stuff - ONE wheelbarrow load of wood for a 12-14 hour burn, sometimes even 15 hours!!!!

More water capacity isn't going to change the btu needs of your house. They remain the same depending on outside temps. Now if you were going to utiliZe 500-1000+ gallons and batch burn and only use the the stove to heat up that water once per day than you might be able to squeeze some effieincy out of the stove since there would be no idling. Other than that there's no gains in wood use Efficiency.
I would have to respectfully disagree about water capacity as far as burn times for the furnace, btus going to the house. Not many have benn able to compare furnaces side by side, but being on my third outdoor furnace I think I can put some input into this.
Our first furnace was an Empyre 450, water capacity 300 gallons, rated for 8000 square feet. My Father's house is a HUGE brick farmhouse, ours is smaller but older, needing improvements to insulation, windows etc as money and time permit. Have never calculated square footage, just went by what our Empyre dealer recommended. The furnace worked very good, just really liked it's wood.
Two wheelbarrow loads of wood about 10:00 at night to carry it through until 6:00 in the morning,so I was looking for a furnace that would last longer and use less wood.
Next was a BL 4044, water capacity 160 gallons, rated for 12000 square feet( has to be a typo, because there is no way it could handle it)!!! THREE wheelbarrow loads at 10:00 at night, stone cold and out before 6:00 in the morning, had to be out to feed it again by 5:00
Now to the present and best furnace,Heatmaster MF 20000E,500? Gallons I believe ,rated for 20000 square feet. Is it oversized? probably, but TWO wheelbarrow loads in at 8:00 at night easily does until 9:00 or 10:00 the next morning, when it was extremely cold,-36 F,it cut down to 10 hours between loads.
To recap,SAME heating requirements- furnace 1-300 gallons,TWO wheelbarrow loads for an 8 hour burn in cold but not extreme conditions, furnace 2-160 gallons,THREE wheelbarrow loads for a 6-7 hour burn, and furnace 3-500 gallons,TWO wheelbarrow loads for a 12-14 hour burn.

Also eating through the wood a little quicker now,but it was -32 Fahrenheit here this morning, used to be two wheelbarrow loads of 18” length wood for a 12-15 hour burn, that is down to 8-10 hours now, also into butternut,so much lower btu’s.

I have seen others post pictures of their house showing spots where the heat is seeping out of the house? Where would I find one of these without paying a fortune, and if at all possible renting might be a better option,as would not need to continually check?

General Discussion / Re: Rude/ ungrateful children rant
« on: December 18, 2017, 10:36:43 AM »
We went through the terrible teenage years also,it's not necessarily the parents fault. We were raised with strict upbringing, tried to do the same with our kids, teaching them right from wrong, respect, empathy, rewards for hard work, etc. Biggest problem nowadays is not only do kids feel entitled, but too many busybodies around taking pictures, reporting child discipline etc.Our oldest son was( and actually still is) a good worker, but however  a child care worker came to his class one day, maybe about grade 5 or 6, and asked if any kids were upset about being spanked for discipline, his hand went up,by the end of the day there were two police cruisers in our yard with the same social worker, who then yelled at us in front of him that if we ever laid a hand on him again we would both go to jail, wonder why we had to put him out of the house at age 18?  Our youngest son pretty much same the same boat, thought we should ask please and thank you for any work,X Box all night long so sleep all day, told my wife and she agrees, should we ever get any grandchildren there will be NO X Box or Video Games in our house

HeatMaster / Why is the furnace more efficient the colder it gets?
« on: December 14, 2017, 09:57:38 AM »
I believe it was CountryboyJohn who told me this when I was looking to replace previous furnace. Last evening was our first major chill of the winter, down to -31 with the wind chill. I put in two wheelbarrow loads of mostly maple last evening, now 14 hours later and still not needing wood. On previous nights to this with similar loads, would be needing to add wood after 14 hours, even though it was milder outside. I had thought maybe I had the draft adjustment set to high and blowing heat up the stack. I will be taking stack temperatures with an infra red gun over the holidays, with different settings to see if there is much of a difference in heat loss.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Anyone heard of an Orlan Furnace?

Going through the farm paper this morning, saw an ad for Orlan Furnace, claiming 92-93% efficiency, now that’s pretty high!
