HeatMaster / Logo version 8 control swap
« on: November 17, 2018, 10:53:26 AM »
So my control on my G200 quit working and Heatmaster sent me the new updated control. I thought I put all the wires back in the correct locations , the instructions they sent get a little confusing in the middle. When I turned it back on it began to start up and then blew fuse #1 so I shut it back down. Anyone have a wiring schematic of the retrofit? I was hoping not to have to wait until monday for tech support. Thanks guys for any help.

HeatMaster / I think my g-200 has brain damage
« on: November 05, 2018, 06:00:46 AM »
So this weekend i finally got around to giving the boiler it's fall once over before I light it for the season. The oo7 pump I have for a recirculator was dead so I changed it out. I pulled the fan door off and made sure everything in there was clean and working properly. Checked the damper plate and it was clean and free. I turned the power switch on and the logo control lit up but there was nothing on the screen. The red light is flashing like it does when it's cold. The cold start button is not working either. The fan comes on if you open the bypass handle. I pulled the control panel off and checked the fuses and they are fine. Everything looks clean and in proper order in there. I turned it on/off several times but still nothing on the screen. Starting to think the logo control is bad? Stove build date is 10/2015.

Plumbing / connecting to logstor
« on: December 28, 2017, 06:58:18 PM »
I'm hooking my wood boiler back up at our new house and I was wondering what is the best way to connect 1" copper to my logstor? I was using some compression fittings that I think were for 1" pex and I'm pretty sure that's why I had a leak last spring.

Plumbing / Anyone heard of hy-PE-RTube?
« on: November 14, 2017, 05:16:36 PM »
So I'm finally getting to the heating system portion of our 1850 farmhouse overhaul. I am getting ready to run my loops to tie in my cast iron baseboards and trying to decide what tubing to use. I decided to go with pex for cost and time savings. I saw a new tubing called hy-PE-RTube made by Zurn\Dow. It is supposed to be more flexable with less coil memory than conventional cross linked tubing. Was wondering if anyone out there had heard anything about it? Looks like a good choice for what I need to do. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

HeatMaster / Customer survey
« on: August 05, 2017, 02:41:00 PM »
Back last fall Slim told me that Heatmaster was going to have him come out and do some upgrades to my g-200. He came out and added a cold air box to my fan , cut the curtain rails on the fire box , and changed out my turbulators with heavier ones. At that time he gave me a survey from Heatmaster asking questions about why we bought our boiler , what we liked most about it , how it has changed how he heat our house and so on. It said you could do the survey over the phone or by email. It also said that if you completed the survey they would send you (a case of boiler treatment or a gift card to your favorite restaurant). There was no email address listed so I searched around their web site and found contact information and asked where to send the survey? no answer. I tried emailing again no answer. I just found the paper the other day when I was cleaning my desk , I had kind of forgotten about it. I guess that survey was only meant for who they wanted to hear from. Guess I'm not getting my boiler treatment either :(

General Discussion / Off Topic
« on: April 20, 2017, 06:25:03 PM »
I joined this forum because I was new the the OWB world and when I got my stove this nice guy "Slimjim" came down to my house and helped me get my boiler online and told me that I should join this forum because there was a wealth of knowledge on here and he was right. It has been a great experience for me and I have learned a lot. There are many people here with a lot of experience with many different things. Seems like lately a lot of posts start off positive and then get completely off topic. Heated discussions are not always bad if they are relevant to the topic. General discussion might be the place to discuss problems between dealers , manufactures , and customers , not in a topic started on a particular subject. I'm guessing that since purchasing and operating an OWB is an adult matter that we are all adults here , lets try and keep it that way. Maybe we aren't all friends here and many of us have never met anyone else they talk to here , but I consider you all my friends as I'm sure many of you feel the same way. Lets keep it clean and interesting for all of us on here as well as all the guests who come on here every day , some of who could be your next customers.

Equipment / Husqvarna 372XP oil leak
« on: April 19, 2017, 05:25:26 PM »
Hey I know a bunch of you guys are running this saw. Any of you have oil leaking from the bar oil res when it sits. Mine is only maybe year and half old and every time it sits for any length of time there is a puddle under it. I have taken it back a couple times and they did something to it but it starts doing it again not long after. I don't really care love the saw just makes a mess and was wondering if you guys had this problem too.

Plumbing / Connecting OWB to steam boiler system
« on: March 19, 2017, 11:22:18 AM »
one of the houses that we looked at in our great house search has a steam boiler and radiators. I basicly understand how a steam system works and I was wondering how would I connect my OWB to this system or can you connect to a steam system? I have seen where others have run more piping and turned it into a hot water system but this house is completely newly remodeled and I didn't want to have to take things apart again if we didn't have to. Thanks in advance for the help.

General Discussion / Coffee: not just for breakfast
« on: March 04, 2017, 04:05:55 PM »
I never would believe this if I hadn't tried it myself. I recently bought a 20' shipping container from the port in Boston. I have no idea what had been shipped in it but it had recently been unloaded and was delivered to my house. When I opened it up it had a strong fishy odor. I tried spraying it down with Bleach twice and that didn't help. My wife washed it out with some sort of commercial cleaner and that didn't work. So a friend of mine said go get the cheapest coffee you can find and spread the grinds all over the floor and close it up for a couple days. So I bought a bucket of cheep coffee at the dollar store and tried it out. Unbelievable it worked!!! No more fishy smell just smells a little like coffee which is fine with me. He said they use that trick to clean out the freezer units at his freezer plant when they aren't running them. He says you can sweep it up and use it multiple times. I never would have believed that in a hundred years.

Any one else having trouble sending private messages to other members? Mine used to wok fine but the last few messages I tried to send didn't go through. Also they didn't go to my "sent" box either. It was like after I hit send , they vanished.

General Discussion / Guess it's time to move
« on: February 16, 2017, 07:14:27 AM »
My wife and I and her son have been living in our house for quite a while, Wendy and Justin something like 15 years. The owner lives a few states away and has always been generous to us over the years and we treat the house as it was our own. The few times he's been here he has always been very happy with the house and yard and has always said that if he were to sell he would want us to buy it from him. So he has decided to sell and yesterday we received his proposal. So what is here now is a 2500 s.f. farm house built in 1830 - 1840 and 4.3 acres. I had the place appraised by the bank and they said it was worth $274,000. House needs about $100,000 in exterior renovations or it would be worth a little more. So his proposal is to divide the property into 3 , 1.4 acre lots and the price is as follows the 2 house lots would be $150,000 and $160,000 and the lot with the house would be $395,000  :o. Wife and I both just about hit the ceiling. I'm a little confused I'm pretty sure he said he wanted us to stay here. So we told him he could shove it to be nice and we're off to start looking for a new house this weekend. And I'm taking my wood boiler with me ;) when we go.

HeatMaster / Splits vs Rounds
« on: February 10, 2017, 04:11:51 PM »
Maybe a coincidence but I just happened to hit a place in the wood pile where I have mostly rounds 2-5" diameter. So I tried putting a couple splits in the middle and the rest rounds when I loaded the stove the last few times. It has been cold here the last couple days and the wind has been howling , usually takes a toll on trying to heat my drafty old house. Seems like my wood is lasting longer and boiler is recovering faster in burn cycles? anyone else ever notice that is the case with their boilers?

General Discussion / Goose Chili
« on: January 14, 2017, 05:15:36 PM »
We are having a really great goose season here in MA with big flocks of Canada's everywhere. Temps went down again this weekend and my wife made my favorite goose chili. Already 2 bowls in and I may need another. If anybody is interested I'll post the recipe.

Plumbing / Primary Circulator Size
« on: January 10, 2017, 06:50:02 AM »
My question is other than the obvious that bigger pumps use more electric is there any other concerns if your circulator is probably larger than what's needed? For instance I have 100' of logstor pipe running to my boiler. I have a Taco 2400-20 WB circulator running my supply \ return loop from the OWB. The circulator is in the basement and probably 6' lower than the connections at the boiler. IMO I think that that circulator is probably way overkill for what it is doing , but is there any harm in leaving it doing it's job? or would downsizing improve anything?

General Discussion / Suprise
« on: January 07, 2017, 04:37:05 PM »
I wish I could get paid as much as the weather people to be wrong most of the time. Yesterday : Dusting to 1" of snow by morning. 5" on the ground when I got up , no big deal. Today: Coastal winter storm 3-6" during the daytime , 1-3" at night. Just went out to fill the boiler and the snow is over my knees! :o wow that was a little off and still snowing pretty hard.
