Chainsaw
« on: March 26, 2008, 09:47:42 PM »

:bash: I bought a Jonsenred chainsaw. It is one of the best saws I have ever owned. The best purchase I ever made was an electric chainsaw sharpener from Lowe's (it only cost me $30). It cut my sharpening time by 80%, and what an edge it puts on a chain.

I purchased a dremel tool last year to sharpen my husky. It is the best purchase I made aside from the saw itself.

I bought one of those sharpeners at Lowes also.  Does a nice job.   ;D

Does that Lowes sharpener automatically give you the perfect angle? I have always sharpened by hand. Although the chain is sharper when I'm done than when I started, I am never sure I'm getting the perfect angle to bring my file across at.

Cal,

good question.  I just bought a file and guide and even with it, its hard to tell whether I'm getting the right angle.

there are marks on top of file guide.if your chain has a flat side it is a full chissel chain file on 25 deg line.if chain has rounded side it is a semi chessil chain file on 30 deg mark

yeah but that doesn't mean your hand is going to stay steady at that angle (human error).  I can keep the lines on the guide parallel to the bar for the right angle but if I move just a hair one way or the other it changes the angle I'm sharpening at.

Pete,
Did you have to purchase a special kit for your dremel tool to sharpen chains?  It would be nice to have something that showed sharpening angles like a file guide.
