Leaky WD14000
« on: August 11, 2013, 04:55:35 PM »

Well...It finally happened. My 2006 boiler plate 14000 started leaking at the chimney/firebox weld. I had it rewelded and now hoping for the best. Who else has had leaks and where? Post em up!

I had a leak around door but it was where someone stopped welding around the corner and did not restart with a small overlap. I do not know if mine is the 14000 or not it was the medium size one, I bought it 2 years used.

Mine started leaking in the back towards the bottom over a year ago, its about the same age as yours is, I'm thinking a 2006.    Another leak came in the weld that was used to fix it, about six months after the first repair.     Was hoping to bide some time before buying another furnace, to give me time to figure out what make and model to buy along with coming up with the money to do it.    Anyone have an idea how long they last after the repairs have been done to them and the first start leaking?

We bought our outdoor furnance in 2011 and it worked awesom for 1 year then started leaking, now we are told wood doctor is bankrupt cant get it fixed unless we pay weldler which is thousands of dollars or we are told to by another outdoor furnance.  We paid $17882.00 for this and its is only our 3rd year using it.  Not happy, not sure what to do but we need heat soon.

You guys with the conventional's, they are pretty easy to weld if you go about it by cutting into the water tank, the gassers are not as easy but can still be done, what model do you have Bing. Have any of you contacted Silver winds Metals, they are the folks who built them.

After finding more rot around the chimney/firebox weld I decided to sell it. I was unable to get anyone out to look at it to get an estimate for fixing it. I though about cutting the heat exchanger tubes out of it and capping them, thus making it easier to repair the rot area and future repairs. But like I said I could not get a welder to look at it.

I sold it for $1250. With what I had into it, I figured at 9 years old it cost me about $800 a year (I dont buy wood) to heat my home and garage vs. $2500 a year in propane.

I did contact Silverwinds when I found my first leak and they would not entertain helping me fix it.

I'm waiting on delivery of my 7500 Ridgewood.
