General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Hard water or soft water?
« on: January 10, 2012, 07:37:16 PM »
While it's not in my budget for a year or more to get an OWB, I have been doing my research for a while.  One question I have is about the water.  We have very hard water where I live and I suspect scale would become a problem after a while if I put well water in it so what have some of you done to combat this?  Even if I had a way to get softened water in it, I reckon I will have to add some from time to time.  In order to have a OWB am I going to have to figure a water softener in the equation as well?

Home Made / Plans for gasification OWF?
« on: March 13, 2011, 12:04:31 AM »
Just wondered if anyone out there had plans for a gasification furnace such as jackel440 built.  I have a friend who is a first rate welder and machinist who has agreed to do the work for me over time as I can pay for it out of pocket.  I am willing to pay a reasonable price for it too.  I do want something that has actually been built and proven.....again, like jackel440's.

HeatMaster / Took a look at a HeatMaster SS today....
« on: February 19, 2011, 08:12:47 PM »
Not sure which size it was, but the firebox was HUGE.  Seemed like it was awfully thin-walled though even though it was stainless.  they do have a neat shaker grate design and the exhaust is forced to come all the way forward in the firebox before being routed back to the pipe in the rear.  I wish I could find info on the newer gasification furnace they have though.
