Electronics / Loooking for a way to see furnace temp thru wifi.
« on: October 31, 2017, 02:53:58 PM »
Well i finally have wifi at my house . I'm looking for options for viewing the furnace temp. I only need to see it , not interested in changing it as i rarely ever do. I'm currently using a Ranco on a Shaver 290 stove. So far i've been leaning towards using a security camera but hopefully theres a better way . Thanks in advance.

Shaver Furnace / Door Latch

Anybody come up with a decent back door latch . I have been using a 5/16 bolt with some nuts on it . Works good actually but would like to see what others are using.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / door sizes
« on: January 04, 2010, 03:52:40 AM »
I think the thing i dont like the most about my shaver is the door size. I am a pretty big guy and have got some big logs up to the stove with no problem only to find out they are just a smig too big or a small knot or y in the wood wont allow them to go in.   :bash:   Also, Seems like once i get a nice size log in there its hard to get some small stuff around it . Sure wish the door was a few inches bigger. I know a couple guys with central boilers that have huge doors. Anybody else feel the same way  ?

Anybody know of a remote thermometer that will work 140 yds away.  I would like to know what the temp is in the morning before going outside.

I have a shaver 290,  Been running now for 5 months here in Elkton, Md. Works good but i need to do some mods. I heat a shop  (2700) square ft ) and house  (2300 ft) hot water in both. The hot water set up from shaver is perfect. The only problem i had in the sumer was the stove sometimes would go out because of not firing for days . Not that big of a deal . As for the winter , It works very well down to 20 degrees. I get burn times of 12-15 hours. I need to have at least 12 hours between filling due to my work schedule.  I've had the stove temp set at 130*  and moved it up to 145* in the last month .House is insulated well but shop isnt.(working on that)  Keep the garage set low, just above freezing unless i'm in there . i use two hanging heat exchangers running in series.

Questions ,  Do you think i should raise the temp at the stove ?

I was thinking about replacing the thermostat and going with a digital or aquastat.  Any thoughts ?  Thanks Russ
