onezero,    I have one of those headlamps also that I got at Bass Pro. I love that thing. Another thing you could do is run a wire from your fan switch to a light of somekind (I have a flourescent) Jerkash has a red light. That way you know when your unit is calling for heat. And maybe  go to Bed Bath and Beyond and get a Redi Chek Remote Meat thermometer and that will give you somewhat of an idea of what your water temp is from inside your house and you can tell from inside when your temp drops when you need to add wood.   These are just suggestions and I know you can get thermometers other places but that's where I got mine.

onezero,     You are probably going to have to get some seasoned wood and burn and maybe mix it somewhat . It would be best to have all seasoned wood but maybe the mixing would be the best of both worlds for a while. Make sure you have  high cutoff set at 180 and your low to kick on at 165. No colder than its's been you should be able to go 12-15 hours or more on half to three quarters of a load of hard wood depending  how much of a pull it has on it . Try some better dryer wood!!! Let us know if that helps.

Legend / Re: water treatment

Yea that's kinda what I've been thinking. The boiler treatment is 34.18 a quart, it takes 3 for my boiler, and 23.44 for the anode rod. Quite a bit every year!!

Tanner,I get my boiler treatment and anode rod from my dealer I bought it from. It is called Legend boiler treatment, don't know who manufactures it. As for anode rod every year I drain my boiler, rinse it out and put new treatment in and replace the anode. I can tell you this every year when I replace the rod the only thing left is a stub. So I guess the rod is doing something!

We have a zero clearance fireplace that heats the whole house so we have been using it . I will be going away for a few days the first part of November. I didn't want to bother anyone with the boiler while I was away so I will fire it up when I get back. And yes it has been cold here too!!!!

If you are buying new I still would try and find out from the company or a dealer if the size is still the same since they made their changes. Also I live in Northwest Indiana. How that compares with where you live could make difference also.

I heat right at 4000 sq. ft. of house and a 1200 sq. ft. of garage with a 11ft. ceiling, 2-50gal. water heaters and a 500 gal. hot tub. And it does a very good job.
As I just looked at their website it seems that they have changed the size of the 6180 somewhat. My 6180 holds 500 gallon. the 6180 on the website now reads 350 gallon. Also the weight is lighter so I don't really know what to tell you.
If you plan on ever adding on to more than 7000 sq. I would probably go to the 8230 because it would probably push the 6180 too much.
If I were you I would give them a call.

Having very good luck with mine too. I have spares too. My pump started chirping so I ordered a new one. It seems to be okay so haven't changed it.
Thanks for the reply.

They'll give me the full 3 year factory warranty, just like anyone that sells them would. I've delt with them before and haven't had any problems!!!

My B and G pump a PL 36 started chattering thursday morning. It"s seven years old so I priced around here and they wanted anywhere from $325 to $360. So I looked on E-bay and found it at free heat 4U for $190 plus free shipping, so I ordered it. Then my wife suggested I shut it off and turn it back on and I said I was afraid it might not start back up, so I tried it, shut it off for about ten seconds and then turned it back on and it came back on but still chattered, so I shut it back off and left it off for about a minute this time and turned it back on and it's been quite ever since. Now she thinks she's a plumber!!!!  Oh well I'm glad I ordered the new pump.   Am thinking maybe though I should of gotten a 3-speed but I was in a hurry when I ordered it!!!!
