Just curious as to where and what your dampers look like. I've been having an issue with smoke on my earth and I'm beginning to wonder if it's more of a air volume issue. Idk

Ditto pexsupply.com they are way cheaper then any big box store and if have leftover parts call them and they will send you a return label free of charge. Now for the freeheat4u guru! I called and bought my water to air exchanger and both a side arm and plate x (didn't know at time witch one I was gonna use) and while I was on phone with him he talked me into a solenoid and relay so I could just run one T-stat (didn't use either went with dual stats) when I had called to see about returning he said I can't cause it was electrical part so I asked about returning side bar and he said it's been more than a week. But all in all he was very cheap and I have some copper to scrap in the future.

Sounds like backdraft! Open door and it'll go away.

I have a 20 plate and it's scalding hot. However when I was doing my research I noticed that people who had them fail they fail with cold sticking and they will still be scalded. So my opinion is if one of my babies gets scalded its because of human error and I was very direct during the learning curve. Just be careful it's hot hot hot!

I guess that'll be my next trial is bigger pcs. Not to mention that is why I choose earth is for their big 25" door cause I didn't want to split anything. Lol

Yes it defiantly clears upon opening door. The only problem with feeding it more often is that unlike a lot of america I have to go to work :'( so I can't really and don't want to really babysit this thing all day if you know what I meen

Willie g your exactly right on that one. Not only can you hear it with this stove you can feel the door bumping/breathing. Kinda funky and yes as soon as I open door it clears right up. That's why I'm led to believe its more of a volume issue then anything. Or maybe I should try just adding bigger pcs of wood rather than an arm load of smaller pcs. Or do u think I should just try and shoot for more air

Ahhh good point! It has has been idling a lot in between burns due to warmer weather maybe I should've waited longer. Mostly I've been burning ash and oak in it. Somebody also mesg me about blower not pushing enough air volume so I did the math and it may or may not have something to do with it. I have aprox. 94 cubic ft in firebox and blower on front of door is only rated to push 65 cubic ft of air. So I'm thinking about calling manufacture tomorrow and just asking. They have been very helpful so far. I have also tried adjusting my temp from 5* to 10* just to see if maybe a longer burn cycle would help clear things up with no success. Maybe I'm over thinking this like always but to me it's wasted btus which = wasted labor. Lol

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Smoke during burn cycle?
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:22:43 PM »
Sorry I posted this under site suggestions the first time so I will ask again. Ok I know this is a loaded question cause I know the nature of the beast but I'm just wondering before I post my views of my new earth woodsman I've been burning about a month. I know how most other brands burn and they seem to all smoke at the beginning of burn cycle but then somewhat clear up the hotter the fire gets no matter the wood used (green or dry) but even if I burn well seasoned wood she smokes like an ole locamotive under full power and it bugs me cause I know that's wasted btus buging my neighbors a half mile away. I was under the impression that having a forced draft on front of door she wood burn hot enough and faster to maybe not smoke during mid burn cycle. I've tryed cutting air back by covering intake and also tryed moving fire position inside and doesn't seem to matter. I'm almost wondering if it's not getting enough volume?

I may have been guilty of overloading it the first week but now I'm wondering cause I've tryed just about everything I can think of. Dry wood, fire placement, covering air inlet to cut air back.

General Discussion / Re: Rainwater and clorox

Idk about the bleach but I do know that you are doing the best thing possible by using rainwater. I talked with the owner of hardy even tough I don't own a hardy and he said the #1 killer to all owb is salt and that rainwater has the least amount of salt and corrosive materials in it. I wish I could've been patient enough to collect enough rainwater atleast for my  1st fill.

For Sale / Honeywell aquastat and relay new unused make offer for the pair
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:57:27 PM »
I have a honeywell aquastat and a honeywell relay I bought new from freeheat4you.com AKA Anderson's but I decided to wire my thermostat a different way. I guess using these two components allows you to run your boiler from one single thermostat without kicking your A/C unit on and still have your existing furnace as back up. They will not allow me to return them because they are electrical (bunch of bs cause I never es used and I bought a lot of stuff from them) i can give you model numbers if needed. Let me know thanks

Electronics / Re: Need help with t-stat

Finally it worked!!!  That was the key was to do a direct splice and stay off the G terminal in existing t-stat. Still doesn't make sense in my head but don't care. The only thing I lose is the ability to run fan manually (who needs that anyway). Thanks guys

Sweet I will give it another try tonight when I get home. I'm hoping that'll keep my a/c from kicking on. Thank you
