How are your rope gaskets holding up on the 4135? Mine is good shape on the top and sides but the bottom is pretty hard and I believe it leaks a little. Is there a better gasket any one else using? Thanks.

Smitty33,
How old is your gasket??? My gasket is 5 years old and still seams to be pretty tight. I try to remember to run my glove all the way around it to knock any creosote off of it every time I fill but it may be to late for that. My dealer always ask's every year about it when I order my treatment and anode rod. Someone was asking Slim on here about a siliconed gasket that P&M has maybe if you need one he can help.

Mine is three years old with no problem
Like Koutsman said, if you need one, check into the silicone one.

What size' as far as I know we only have 1 inch

It is 1" gasket, just curious if any of you have changed yours yet. Ive heard about the silicone ones but haven't seen where to get one. How much are they per foot? How well do they hold up?

this is the first year with the stove.

Smitty - Just noticed this is your first year. Your rope gasket should still be in good shape. It is hard because it has got hot which is normal. Probably harder on the bottom because of coals possibly contacting it more. If you catch a day with no wind, cut your fan off and smolder some pine straw or something like that, that will smoke a lot and hold it under the door and see if it sucks smoke inside the door. If not, its not leaking.

I was told to soak the gasket with WD-40 periodically to keep it pliable, seems to help. First gasket lasted 2 years without WD, so we'll see how long this one lasts.
