Not sure what state you are in, I'm usually in a state of confusion, but make sure you check out state and local regulations. Many states require the newer EPA Phase 2 units and you can get into alot of hot water (pun intended) if you put in something other and get caught.
Good luck and I hope to welcome you to the fossil fuel free club soon!

Could someone please combine all the WoodDoctor threads? It seems they all have repetitive, word for word posts.

Thanks for sharing what is happening to you. I drive past your shop every day and seeing the WD furnaces sitting there put the thought of owning one into my head. I did some research about 16 months ago and saw some people were having warranty problems so I opted for the NC 175 and love it. Are you now a NC dealer? I know someone looking for a NC locally and wouldn't mind knowing where to pick up parts when I need them for mine.
Good Luck!

Well my low tech experiment told me this:
Low speed = oil boiler runs alot.
Medium speed = oil boiler runs only in AM when calling for heat and lots of hot water.
High speed = oil boiler never runs.

Ok, high speed it is!

Wondering the same thing in a low tech way. What circ speed is the best? Still have the original 3 speed circ on my NC.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Smoke

The easiest way to not smell like smoke is to buy oil...very expensive, but no smoke smell.

I just keep a coat for OWB service in the basement. Knit hat too. Stoke boiler before shower in the morning. Doesn't seen to be a big deal for me.

I really enjoy reading all the stereotype BS that is on this site and others like it. Labor or management, high school dropout or PhD., it doesn't really matter. There are rules we all need to live by. Laws of nature, The Ten Commandments, Love your neighbor, the golden rule, natural selection, etc.. All the laws belched out by the government are nothing more than self serving ways to put money into the pocket of someone who is already rich or some special interest group. I don't want to get one over on anybody or the government. I just want to live my life and try to make some sense of how my tax dollars get used. If I put in an OWB and it smokes out the neighbor its my fault. I should have been smarter, so now I should do the right thing and remove it. If my boiler was already there and somebody decides to move in next door they should have been smarter and need to put up with the smoke. How hard is that?

Ok, I'm ranted out...BTW did everybody enjoy Christmas?

Fire Wood / Re: TYPE of CHAIN SAWS USED
« on: December 03, 2011, 03:33:16 AM »
I sold my 044 Stihl after 15 years of use. Downsized to a 5105 Dolmar with a 20" bar and love it. Much lighter and handles everything I need to cut for firewood. Tops and butts from logging. A sharp chain is the key to any saw cutting well, as long as the saw runs...
Learn to file, keep extra chains, do what you have to, but stay sharp!
