Fire Wood / Re: Softwood vs hardwood
« on: September 14, 2017, 07:32:02 PM »
Your definantly gonna go through more softwood than you will with hardwood..Softwood less btu's etc..Generally softwood you can get it for free since no one burns it (except sap houses) in wood stoves for heating..Ive found in the warmer months where you have not much demand...Softwood doesn't not hold the red coals like hardwood does..Final thought..Burn any seasoned wood..The owb is designed for that!..Better than paying the oil guy!

What part of central NH you live?? Central NH here..Far as burning green wood.. Ya it will burn it..Makes your boiler work harder.. btus up in smoke..Far as burning wood whole rounds..Kinda be careful about that..  Round wood can bridge, the fire burns everything in the middle..Wood doesn't fall into the fire..Fire went out..Its happened to me!!..Im a fan of a good mixture of  split and unspilt wood, small and large

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Water capacity question
« on: May 21, 2017, 08:20:44 PM »
my boiler only hold 59 gallons of water real quick recovery.. ya when all the zones are calling ya temp drop on the boiler.. but its a way faster recovery than a boiler that holds a 250 gallon boiler.. These days they have a tank less hot water heaters and boilers powered by propane/city gas .. What I've been told very efficient.....I see them more and more  for awhile now..
