Title: Indicator Light or Buzzer
Post by: BIG AL on December 15, 2016, 07:18:06 PM
Hi guys I would like to have a way to know when my boiler is not running for some reason , like when it goes out. Looking for a simple way to let me know when my water temp is under something like 150 or so. I want something to alert me when the boiler is out before I wake up and it's down to 110. Wireless would be nice but not completely necessary.  I know some of you have already figured this out. Thanks for any input.

Simplest would be to place an aqua stat on a supply line in the house and set it to close under your desired temperature and wire it to a light or buzzer. Place a switch in it so you can shut it off when first firing the stove so you don’t have to listen to it

Marty is right Al, I think I may have an old make on rise aqua stat on the bus that you can have if you stop up here!

Can this be done with the wireless maverick meat sensors. My boiler is 100 ft or so from where I sleep. Usually if my boiler drops to 160 something is not right. Sure would be nice to have the alert.
Are there different styles of the maverick that work better for this?

If I can get down your way I'll stop by and we can set it up over a couple of cold adult beverages!

So I came up with a duel purpose fix. I am using a thermoworks remote monitoring meat and smoker thermometer. I have the low temp alarm set at 140 and the high temp set to 190. I attached it to the supply coming into the house from the owb. The ambient temp prob attached to the copper pipe and with pipe insulation reads really close to my mech gauges. Has an 1800 hr battery life and 300' range. Should wake me up if the boiler temp is high or low for any reason. Also the wife stole it and used it to cook Christmas dinner. I'll get an extra probe and we can switch it back and forth.

And a wonderful Christmas dinner it was I bet, we had a big hunk of bloody prime rib that was awesome, then right after that I had to drink almost a gallon of the crap they use to clean you out for a colonoscopy this morning, I think I would have rather waited until today for the Prime Rib

IT WORKS was the text message I got last night while I was at a game club meeting. I had no idea what that meant. The I got another text that read don't worry I got it going again. Confused I walked out and called my wife. I asked what works? and what wasn't going? She replied your alarm thing you put on the boiler went off so I went out and checked it and the boiler was out so I put some paper in there and got it lit again , all set. It's always good to see when a plan works out well.

That's great! Both on the system working and the wife that restarted the boiler! Sounds like a good woman!
