Thanks guys!  It is working fine today so I guess it was the high limit.  I will keep a close eye on it for next few days.   Just so I know at what temp does the high limit cut the power on the E series and when does it allow power to come back on?

Nice to have this forum when things don't work on boxing day and it is 25 below zero!

Neither was running.  When I left to get my tester my temp was at 138.  When I got back 45 minutes later it was off but temp was at 176?!  I can tell it had been running by the way the smoke was coming out of the stack. Turned my set point up to make the blower go on and sure enough it fired up.  Seems to be running fine now.  Not sure what went on while I was away.  I thought maybe it was a defective probe but my BBQ thermometer inside my house is reading the same temp.  When the furnace control was reading 138 the BBQ temp had the same reading.

Outside temp is -25C and I noticed all my zones were calling for heat this afternoon so furnace is busy.  It has a tendency to cause water to boil just above the door when the heat demand is high and the cycle time is too long. I don't know if this has something to do with it or not? Having said this it handles much colder temperatures once we hit Jan/Feb and I've never had issues.

Why would there be no power at blower when temp is well below set point?

HeatMaster / draft fan not coming on
« on: December 26, 2015, 05:45:56 PM »
Hey guys, I went out to check on 5000E tonight and noticed the fan was not on.  Temp is at 140.  My on is 165 and off is 180.  I have never had any issues with my heatmaster before.  Circulation pump is working and the controller is fine.  Any idea what could be  the likely cause?  I will run to my shop and get tester to see if motor has power.   :-\

I agree.  Winkler has a lot of good manufacturers and it would be hard to get such an award in that city.  Great job Friesens.  One day I will stop in and tour that plant.

  Very good video.  They really are a well built unit.  That 10,000e is a beast....all I ever worked with is the 5000e!

I think it is better just to take the fan off since the opening to get there from under grates is small and requires an attachment on vac.  I have done both.  You are right the semi circle can be removed when cleaning, I never even looked at that.

I have a 5000E and I have same problem as suzukidad.  The tool is not too wide.  The handle wedges against the fire box door because the trough is higher than the door.  Almost need a tool with a flexible handle.  By the way I am able to clean out the back of the ash pan with vac by removing the shaker grates.

Looks to me like you are really handy.  Looks good and those tubes seem easy to access. Lots of heat will transfer to your water with those tubes. Looking forward to hearing how efficient it is when you start it up.

Can't go wrong with the 5000 or 5000E.  I've had both and the 5000E burns less wood...something in the order of 15-20% less.  My 5000 threw sparks out the chimney while my 5000E has never done it yet.  Take a look at that C series i think it is even better.  I had a chance to get one before I bought the 5000E but it was a brand new model (had no model number or name) and I wanted to stick with what I knew.  I kinda of wished I would have tried the C series even though I am very happy with my 5000E.  Do you have a dealer nearby?

Had a heat master 5000 for five years and never touched a thing on it.  I upgraded to a 5000E two years ago and have no problems with it either.  On a side note my father in law has been heating with the same boiler he bought new back in 1985! :o  He goes thru 25 cords a year and has never had a leak.  He has replaced fan and thermostat only once.  His circulation pump is also original.  I am not even sure what make it is...can never remember when he tells me. ???  Oh and he burns tires, garbage and pretty much anything that will burn in it!

Thanks for sharing Slim!  Nice you can make it out to Manitoba.  If you go an hour North West of Winkler were I am you would find a lot more trees and hills.  Winkler has some of the best farm land in Manitoba so much of it is cleared.  I love my heatmaster and having a guy like Ryan or his brother Devon to deal with makes it even better.
