RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Stashing away!
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:27:58 PM »
Since the new epa rules  have come out, who would like to buy another stove and stash it away for the future. I hope mine burns a long time. But since conventional boilers are going to be outlawed, I like the price of a conventional stove and simplicity of the stoves.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Power outage
« on: January 31, 2015, 07:30:57 PM »
I had my first power outage with the boiler. I wasn't ready. My generator is new, so I had no oil in it. I didn't have my wiring done in my panel. It took me a hour to get ready. And ran the generator for a hour.

When the stove was power up, the temp was at 197. Pump drop the water down to 172 in a couple minutes.

I will be ready next time.

Electronics / Unit heater
« on: December 04, 2014, 07:40:50 AM »
I installed a unit heater in my garage. My house has three zones of hot water heat.  I was not using my basement zone. So I hook into that zone for the unit heater in my garage.

My problem is that the T stat in the garage tells the pump to circulate and to open the zone.  So that leaves the motor on the unit heater. I bought a snap disc, thinking that would do the trick strap to the cooper line.  It will not close it unless I take a torch to the snap disc.

Is there any simple relays I can use to operator the fan?

Equipment / Aquastat for backup heat
« on: February 08, 2014, 07:26:48 PM »
I was wondering what to set the strap on aquastat at for the backup heat.  I got it wired in to the oil burner. I have it set at 150 right now.
I had it set at 140 and the burner came on. I kept turning it down(as in a lower number than 140) I thought that should shut it off. I turned it the other way higher temp(150) and it shut off. Can someone explain this to me??  I must not be understanding how it works

Electronics / Wiring Unit heater
« on: February 06, 2014, 08:28:54 AM »
I need help with the wiring of a unit heater in my basement.  The heater is plumbed  into the existing boiler. There are three zones in the house. When a thermostat calls for heat it opens a zone valve and turns on the the pump. My question is the unit heater has 115 wire to it. There is a switch to turn the fan off and on. How can I get a thermostat to turn the fan off and on, and also open the zone valve and turn the pump on?

The switch is just a light switch.  The unit heater was there when I bought the house. I don't want the fan to run all the time.

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Fire brick

Has anyone add fire brick to your Ridgewood?  I have thought about it. I have seen some older post
about that question.

Would it help it burn more efficient?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Frustrated!!
« on: January 29, 2014, 06:01:45 PM »
I have had my New Ridgewood 7500 since January 15. It just sit there doing nothing.  The man that normal takes
care of the boiler in the house doesn't want to tie in to the 1.5 copper line. He wants to stay home and what for service
calls.

I contacted a different boiler man. He wants to come out and check everything else with the set up of the OWB.
I told him I got that under control.  He ask me who gave me an diagram to set it up.   That my pump willn't be right.
And i'll not be able to get the air out of the OWB. He thinks I'm dumb as a rock.  I told him I got support from you guys.

The weather is going to be nice this weekend and I want to fire it up.  I'm afraid to tie in the to the copper line. I'm not sure about getting
the air out of that line.  And it's a closed system so you don't want to put a lot of new water in it.

Help me.  All I want to do is use it. Do you guys think I should do it myself?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Placement of Boiler
« on: January 06, 2014, 06:29:50 PM »
I have a question.  With a natural draft do you face the boiler from cross winds.
I was thinking the cross winds would make the boiler over fire.

Any thoughts

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Pump in the basement
« on: December 29, 2013, 06:09:42 PM »
I was wondering if the pump in the basement is better than on the boiler?

I'm going to put a air handler in the attic for cooling. The house is baseboard heat
currently. So I thought about putting a coil in the air handler for heating the up stairs.

What are your thoughts?

Pumping size is the next issue to get it up there??

Thanks Zack

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Ridge wood vs Timberwolf
« on: December 28, 2013, 05:24:26 AM »
Hello, I'm new to the forum. I'm going to buy a owb, narrowed it down to an ridge wood or timber wolf.  Would like to buy a wood master, but money is the issue.  Redoing and old farm house and spending money on a lot of different stuff in the house.
So give me your pros and cons on each.  Ridge wood guy said he would deliver it to me in ohio for free.

Thanks for your thoughts
Zack
