Plumbing / pump size
« on: December 03, 2014, 03:17:08 PM »
I got my homemade owb on line the first of November. It is 100' from the owb to the heat exchanger that sits about 4' lower than the owb. I installed a taco 007 which seemed to work fine till I later put a heat exchanger in my garage. It is  9' to the top of it. The 007 will not pump to the top of it. Right now I have the heat exchanger in the garage bypassed. What size pump do I need, and do I need a 3 speed? THANKS for any help.

Home Made / paint on water side of fire box
« on: February 01, 2014, 04:41:43 PM »
:-\ I read in a post that the water side of the water jacket should not be painted . Figure this goes for fire box too . my firebox is a 120 gal propane tank with some nice thick paint . I started removing some but after 1/2 hr  I had only cleaned up about half of the end. Does this really have to come off . I know the treatment needs to make contact with bare metal to work properly . I guess what I am really wanting to know is what kind of problems would develop from leaving the paint on ?

I am working on build, and am at the point of installing the forced air draft pipe under the grate . My question is, what size pipe should I use 3" or 4". What cfm blower- and does it have to be multi speed? Get this done and I will be back to pick your brain some more. Thanks for all the help everyone has given so far. ^-^

Home Made / Insulated fire door???
« on: January 13, 2014, 06:09:54 AM »
Ready to build the door for my outdoor wood and coal  boiler. It will be 22x22 1/4" plate 4" thick. What is  the best way to insulate it? If I use ceramic , do I use a couple layers of 2" ceramic blanket or some other type?
Not familiar with using refractory-If this is the way to go lead me thru the process (how to mix and apply.)
Thanks for the help fellers. By the way I have water here in Southern West Virginia!!

I will be installing a grate also any help on best build for that? I've been looking on line for one but no luck , and if so I am sure they would be pricey . Thanks for any help!
