JUST AS POSTED,  I am at the point where i am trying to get the door done for my wood burner.  Should I insulate the door or not.  It has been a pain trying to find high temp insulation for it.  I need some input.  Thanks

Insulation will help efficiency if you don't build a water jacket door. You can also make your own castable refractory for very cheap with home improvement store materials that will sustain 2000 degrees.

I enjoy casting aluminium and hand forging from time to time and stumbled across this a while back and the stuff holds up to the secondary burn temps of the "gasifier campfire" I put together with the help of my nephew. The stuff has great insulating properties also if you add a little extra perlite and is tough as nails once it cures. May be a viable low cost option....?

I used K Wool which we use in heat treating furnaces.I got it from our refractory brick supplier.do a search for kwool or a local refractory dealer.

You definatly want to insulate your door.if not you will have heat loss,door warpage.then sealing issues with your door gasket.
