Need Help deciding on which furnace to buy.
« on: September 27, 2012, 10:48:07 AM »

OK, I really need some guidance here.  I've been researching and going back and forth on which OWB to buy.  I live in Maryland and have a 6,900sq/ft 1886 Victorian all brick home with 53 single pane windows.  :(  I currently have a 4yr old 250,000BTP oil burning boiler with hot water going through 31 radiators in the house and has no troubles heating the house.  The heating system has been all re-piped with Pex.  I go through 2,400 gals of oil a year for heat and hot water  :'(

I'm been going back and forth on which model and size to buy that's EPA II compliant.  I'm also being cost conscience.   I was leaning toward the Pro-Fab Empyre Pro 400 to get the most heat output for less than $12K.  But then I found a new HeatSource1 190 for only 7,000 new including shipping.  It’s being sold by CVR Manufacturing, the company that brought out HeatSource1.  That’s $5,200 less than the Pro-Fab Pro 400.  Now I realize there is a big heat output difference between the two, but would it justify 5,200 more to go with the bigger one?

So my questions is, should I fork out the extra money and go with a larger unit like Pro-Fab Pro 400 or would the HeatSource1 190 do just fine and save myself 5 grand?

Thanks for any and all input!

Joe

Pm sent, I can help you out

The btu output of the heat source stove can no way do what your wanting to do, if your sizing a stove, especially when hooking to an existing boiler, you have to have more btu than the current system, never less.

Based on what your describing the pro 400 would do what your asking it to do.  However I do feel that even the pro 400 would be near it's capacity, so in no way would I advise you to go with anything smaller whether it be s pro 200, xt 200, or hestsource 190.

OK, I bagged the idea of buying the cheap HeatSource1 190 unit.  I'm going to look at a Pro-Fab Empyre Pro 400 next week.  since they have a new dealer only 15 miles from my house, this might be the way I go.

Any other recommendations or advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe
