Fire Wood / Re: That time of year.

Hauled in 7 dump trailer loads of logs over the last week. Already got 3 dump truck loads of splits and 2 1/2 16' hay wagons full of splits and a full cord stacked by the stove. I should be good for a little while.........

Smoke can be a good thing in the right situation. It's like a signal fire. I can't begin to count how many times I've found shorted wires that way over the years of working on industrial controls. Management gets all nervous when you tell them you saw smoke. I makes my day. However, smoke rolling out of the dash while going down the road, less than ideal......

Well, leave it to Slim to go above and beyond. My system is very simple. Currently I only have one loop. From the boiler to a water to air HX and back, with only one circ pump. I don't have any back up water heat. I might add a tankless heater to the system eventually, but not for awhile. I had it in my head to do something similar to what you drawn up. I was just toying with some different ideas on how to monitor flow. Maybe I should get a touch screen and design my own control............hmmmmmm

Does it blow fuse only when the blinker is activated or does it blow when you step on the brakes or both? Or does it blow with neither circuit activated? Depending on the situation, it might help narrowing down what wiring to chase. I would bet there is a wire skinned in a harness somewhere, more than likely under the bed between the rear lamp and the trailer plug.

Let me try one more description. When some one in the house turns on the hot water, cold potable water starts travelling through the plate HX to feed the water heater. My question is this: what is available at reasonable cost to monitor the potable water flow so the boiler side circ pump can be turned on at that time (or zone valve, I haven't decided yet). I have a back ground in industrial controls, so I'm familiar with many different types of flow monitoring sensors. But everything is industrial and very expensive.

Electronics / DHW loop switching

I'm planning on using a Taco zone controller from Menards with priority function. My DHW loop is simply a boiler side loop through a 40 plate HX and the potable side heats the feed ("cold") side to the water heater. My question is: What are you guys using to sense load when the DHW is turned on? Some kind of thermo couple on the discharge side of the potable side of HX? Maybe a flow switch? Just curious....

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Re: water in my stove

Did you put a bucket over the chimney stack?

When they loaded mine into the truck, they ran the forks through the front door and lifted on the chimney stack inside the fire box. The stove tilted back slightly but was plenty stable. They also said you could run a chain down the chimney stack and hook it to a crossbar across the stack opening inside the firebox. And definately don't forget to drain it......

Mlappin -

Point taken. I do not in any way support those whack jobs from Westboro. They obviously have some wires crossed.

Quote from schoppy:

"How have we fallen so far from the ideals our founders built this country upon? That's easy-when you take GOD out of the equation. You devalue life to a clump of tissue to be discarded, you believe the government can raise children better than a family with a mom and dad and you don't call sin-sin and wonder why people behave like animals?"

This is the answer. period. Ultimate Truth and Morality have been eroded and deluded by people who have fallen prey to sin. We, as a nation, will come under judgement for this.

Just FYI - Lowe's carries spray cans. I picked one up. Gonna give it a try.

In my book your points are null and void.

Got it.

Disclaimer: I am, in no way, attemping to start a fight or cause emotional upheaval. I am also NOT affiliated with Ridgewood or any of the "endorsed" installers.

I still have trouble seeing that it is up to Ridgewood Factory to make it right. I do however feel for you, intensedrive. I also feel that you are absolutely correct in wanting to have an install issue corrected. I almost bought the same pipe you have, but after reading post after post after post after post about not skimping on the underground lineset and going with a well regarded brand of manufactured pipe, I chose Centeral Boiler's Thermopex. The same dealer had Logstor in stock also. Ridgewood may have recommended this particular installer, but is under no obligation to make it right, in my opinion. I assume the pipe is Z-supply that Ridgewood carries. If so, Ridgewood supplied a product that can work, as seen by many folks that have it. So, it's not really a product issue more of an install issue, which, again, Ridgewood cannot be held liable for. Now, they (Ridgewood) can put pressure on the installer to make it right or loose the dealership status. Still, I am curious to see what Craig will have to say.......I, personally, am happy with the stove and the service I got from Ridgewood. I had some issues with controllers and solenoids, all of which were taken care of, no questions asked. It's an entry level stove, with no bells and whistles, and was thousands and thousands fo dollars less than the high end stoves, so I can eat some inconvenience and not be too upset......Keep us posted!!

I used Central boiler Thermopex for my underground lines. It is difficult to work with, but I anticipate many years of service.

As far as changing boilers goes, I'm not sure I can do it this coming year. I've been checking out the Heatmaster website and they sure do look tempting. I don't have the dry wood I should have to run a gasser though. My dad and I run out of the same wood pile, but he has a nice EPA fireplace insert, with secondary burn tubes and all, so he gets the dry stuff and I get the less desirable stuff. Like this year, Dad gets all the left overs from this year and I get the "newer" stuff.
