DIY remodeling with Hydronics / Re: Copper tubing for wall heat?

And thank you, a slinky is the best analogy of what I planned with the soft copper tubing. Suppose soft expands and contracts more than hard copper tubing?

That’s what I was figuring to do with the copper, figure 50ft of copper probably radiates as much as 100’ of pex.

How about a nice ornate cast iron radiator then?

Yah, I’ve thought about a few of those if we ever enclose the porch. Would loose a bit of space in the bedroom. Only real spot for it would be where one of her aquariums is at now, the chances of moving the angels for a radiator are nil to none.

Bare copper doesn't emit very much radiant heat, in a baseboard scenario we'd be talking ~50 BTU per foot with 3/4" type L and 180 degree water. I wonder what the actual output would be in a wall like this

Ideally, it would be finned copper tubing, as in a real hydronic baseboard heater.

I thought about buying just some replacement elements. Could place em at a diagonal from corner to corner in a stud bay.  Even thought about cutting them down and using a ton of elbows. More I thought about a stack of foot long finned elements in the wall and a ton of elbows the less I liked it.

It doesn’t need much, coolest I’ve seen it so far was 65 with the rest of the house at 67.

Yah, dont want to loose any space and the wife hates baseboard heaters. I thought about a radiant wall or two, but then all the baseboard trim and crown moulding has to be torn torn and resized. Baseboards is easy, crown mounding not so much.

I do have some baseboard in the basement but it’s ran behind the water heater, well pressure tank, water softener, etc so she doesn’t lose any space to it.

I even thought about a kickspace heater in a wall kit but my other ideal is silent. If it doesn’t work I’m out some pex and a 100’ of soft copper tubing. I’ll try it before hanging the drywall in the office, if it’s a flop I can at least repurpose the copper for something else.

Years ago we remodeled our bedroom, if it had been recently I probably would have used Ultra fin, would have been tricky as it would have had to be installed from the top before the subfloor. Its not even a crawl space under that part of the house, I honestly think that room used to be a porch that was enclosed. Or maybe I would have done radiant walls then, no duct to that room at all. Fieldstone walls so don’t even want to tackle getting a duct thru em.

Going to remodel the office next, it shares a wall with our bedroom, I’m seriously thinking of taking two rolls of 1/2’ or 5/8” copper and placing fifty foot in a stud bay then doing another for a total of 100’. Place a small register at the bottom and another at the top and see what happens. New windows and siding and we filled any voids when we tore the lathe and plaster down. It doesn’t do bad most of the time, although on colder nights it does get chilly about 4am, a small window unit takes care of AC in the summer.

I figure why not, I already have several other zones set up in the house and have a spot left in the zone controller, just need another zone valve and other miscellaneous supplies.

Apology accepted for that, now how about a little chat with Darrin Pryzbilla AKA Wreckit and Jonathan for their comments on here as well!

They’ve been warned.

Oh yes Marty, as you know I have used it and sent messages as well but you don’t seem to care when your associates come after me or someone complains about a HeatMaster.
Sure glad you are feeling better.

And for this I do apologize, I used to get a message like “you have reported posts” when I logged in or refreshed the page, that feature doesn’t seem to be working anymore. Offending members will be warned.

It appears it’s been at least two years since the forum software has been updated, I don’t have the required permissions or access to do this.

Lol  that is a pretty specific guess. Glad it is back.

Not really, server space/use needs renewed yearly. Debit or credit cards are only good for so long….

The error code that showed up a few times suggested the server was down...

I’m certainly not a fan of any catalyst but the dry firebox is a totally new and interesting concept, only time will tell.

Heiss Heater?? Had/has models that were technically dry fire boxes, cast refractory cement with tubing thru the cement to transfer heat to the water. I thought they were definitely thinking outside the box, but being an outdoor unit get a few hairline cracks and have moisture collect in em and it could get ugly eventually.

Thank You Crow, I have complained to the one and only Moderator in several ways as well as multiple times but it seems that he doesn’t remember his own rules of engagement or perhaps those rules don’t pertain to HeatMaster guys! Let’s hope that ticapa has a more productive conversation with HeatMaster corporate than we have seen on here!

Have you used the “report to moderator “ feature?

That’s what got you in trouble before, other members reporting your posts. Try it, it does work.

Last week I was absent as the plague or Black Death went thru our household.

My guess is the server hosting renewal came up and maybe the debit or credit card used to pay the fee expired.

I have a friend that’s done a lot of remodeling on older homes. He has taken a router, routed a groove in the beam then cut a slim piece of wood to glue in over the top of the romex, its noticeable of course but not near as much as trying to hide wire. He’s also trimmed over the beams and cut a groove in the back of the trim for the wire.

Ok, so first you didn’t show me where I jabbed the HeatMaster defenders, next, Facebook has been around for many years, we were doing fine before this site was taken over by those HeatMaster defenders. You may as well come right out and say it, those rules YOU put in place are only meant for the others, not the HeatMaster guys. It’s sad Marty, it used to be an awesome site that I promoted very heavily and spent lots of my time advocating for wood boilers but you have let things develop into a HeatMaster rules site, it’s time for a change sir.

Hardly, Hydronic Wood Heating hasn’t even been around 2 years, has 1411 members, more joined in the last week than this site seen in a month even when it was hopping, which I’m a moderator there as well, doesn’t seem to hurt it in the least.

Outdoor Wood Boiler, 2617 members.

Outdoor Wood Boilers, 2101 members

Outdoor Furnace Owners, 1430 members

Even your cute little group has 722 members.

But yah, facebook groups don’t leach the least bit of traffic from here. It’s not like this site is as easy to use as Facebook or as easy to post pictures as Facebook. Which by the way the software used here I have zero control over, I don’t have permissions to upgrade it or add a “Like" button like facebook has. Only a few a add on mods were available for a like button with this software and those haven’t been updated in years.

I seem to recall somewhere you were promoting this site and claimed it had over 8000 members, it doesn’t, the majority of those have never posted once or are linked to other spam accounts that have been banned.

Far as the other part, I don’t have time atm, I’ll dig thru it later  in what little spare time I have.

I just went back and recapped over the beginning of this thread and I see nothing other than saying that there are several HeatMaster defenders on here including you sir and it should be a good thread. I came up with why he’s having an issue and you guys got all bent out of shape as you do so often when HeatMaster is put to shame.

Did you ever stop to think Marty that perhaps your one sided view of things regarding HeatMaster and the way you protect those who serve HeatMaster on this very site is #1 why folks don’t talk about their issues with HeatMasters product and #2 why this site has declined so sharply? Nobody wants a washed clean advertising site, perhaps it’s time for a change sir.

Get with the times, Facebook Groups are growing by leaps and bounds unfortunately, so much easier to find information here though.
