lets start a OWB "WHAT IF THREAD" TIPS
« on: October 26, 2008, 08:16:00 AM »

lets start a thread about "what if this happened to your outside wood boiler"

on another forum i seen a  posted a tip: if the damper failure (solenoid) place a 16d nail in the damper to give it enough air to keep the temps up until the solenoid can be replaced.

what other tips can you share?

That's a great idea. In a pinch wood boiler survival! Heating outside the book! This makes thinkers! Sounds good!

alright guys ..you got me thinking ...i bought a extra Circulator pump taco 0014 from granger for $210 delivered. i could have got the replaceable cartridge contains all of the moving parts so you can service it easily instead of replacing the entire unit. i did not want to take a chance of my unit being down without a pump because i am using water in my system . a line would freeze by the time i could get a pump.

I wired a plug on my OWB and plug it in instead of wiring it directly to an electrical box.  This way if the power goes out I can easily plug it into a generator or even an inverter.  Remember that most of those pumps draw around an amp of current which is about as much as a 100 watt lightbulb so there should be no reason you can't keep it running during an outage.  Those of us with a direct plumbed system can also run the inside of the home the same way.
