Central Boiler / Re: Out with the lamb in with BEAST!
« on: December 21, 2014, 01:50:28 PM »
In the central I'm mixing the pieces 4"x24 split (my splitter can only split 24" max) and lengths that are around 8-10"x 35"  so let's say 12-14 pieces split and 2 lengths goes just about under half way.. If that makes any sense. And the old furnace I could use split pieces if I ever put lengths it wouldn't burn them unless they were under 6" thick so everything needed to be split I would get around 10 pieces to fill it but the kicker is if I'm going to fill every 4-6 hrs with 10-12 pieces im filling 4-5xs aday .. No comparison between the two
I see you leave your rounds quite long. I ve found that keeping the log lenth less than the distance from door to the plentum at the back works best. Otherwise the fire is directed up and out the stack. My dealer told me this and I cut mine 18" to 22".I did do the 36" stuff when I first started and it shorter wood works better.

I got a blower on mine. Drilled 5 1"holes in the bottom and put a switch in line so I can shut it off. its off most of the time. if im late getting home and the temp is down i use the fan to restart or crapy wet wood that is hard to burn. Works great.

Not much to do to it. test your water once a year and when u do shut down clean it and cover the stack.

Nice job. What size welder is that? How did it hold up? I think if I were gonna do that maybe i would buy a door from central boilers and fit it to the boiler.Im going to start collecting the stuff and be ready to reproduce your build.Ive had my central for 5 years and love it but it wont last forever.I really like the double latch.

I was visiting some friends this weekend and they have a hardy H5 wood furnace. Not impresive at all.all stainless steet metal with no curb apeal at all. The door was really thin and cheep latches. Heating a new construction home 24 x 30 cape 13 cord a year plus oil. I heat my 28 x 44 open concept house with with 8 to 10 cord.

Central Boiler / Restrictor plate inside the boiler.
« on: September 09, 2014, 07:21:29 PM »
I think last year I saw something in here about a home made restrictor plat that directed the flame away from the stack.Who did it and what did you make it out of?

I have the same boiler as you and dont hook up a domestic water system cuz I dont think it can handle the load.On the coldest of nights I have to race home to add wood cuz the fire is all but out. I work 12 hour shifts plus a 45 min. ride each way.If i could Id upgrade to a 6048 or a gasser.

Central Boiler / Re: My 5036 appears to burning a lot of wood at night
« on: January 28, 2014, 12:25:38 AM »
Its been cold for sure. How long are you cutting your logs? First couple of years I cut mine 30/36 ". Over the last few yares Ive been cutting the logs 18/20" and it seems to burn longer.I think it keeps the flame on the inside of the baffle at the back of the fire box.
Hey Fireboss,I have a blower and put a switch on it and hardly ever use it. In the bottom of the cover I drilled 5 1" holes so I could use it as needed. Did you ever use the furnace without the blower?
Im interested in knowing what kind and how seasoned is the wood your using with the fan.Ive found that beech and maple burn great if cut and seasoned for 3/6 months.I cut it about 20' and just crack it with a small electric wood splitter.

Central Boiler / Re: Cycle rate??
« on: December 19, 2013, 03:30:05 AM »
Im not sure about burn cycles. I do fill mine twic a day at 20*f .Im heating a 28x44 cape with cathredral ceilings and 9 foot walls. Also im missing doors and window trim. Maybe less beer and more doors and trim is in order. Less snowmobiling and motorcycle riding too for that matter.
