TAKE A STAND AGAINST MIDWEST (SYNERGY) BOILERS
« on: January 18, 2014, 05:12:40 AM »

OK I now know multiple people who purchased a Midwest boiler in the past 2 years and all 3 have similar  design flaws/issues. I am curious as to how many people have problems with the Midwest Boiler (merchandise/warranty/customer service) I am logging each issue so please share each one.

Here is his warranty explanation -- What all does the warranty cover?
Many Synergy Boiler Outdoor Wood Furnace owners use their furnace to heat multiple buildings from one location. Consult a dealer for the proper model and configurations to heat your space. With the exception of the blower, Synergy Boiler warrants material and labor on any defects in workmanship for twenty years from the purchase date, to the origianl owner.

echem...that says material and labor on ANY defects in workmanship for 20 TWENTY years...

Obviously if no one speaks up I cant move forward with action I am planning on taking against Craig.

PM me if you don't want it public. I am going to keep records over the next 60 days and then determine the next step.

Each person that has been ripped off by Midwest (Synergy) has a right to persue compensation through small claims court but there is a local law firm that is open to reviewing the outcome of my study.

Either way Craig is going to pay. One at a time or all at once. He is more than a Boiler hack- AND TOUGH TALKER ON A TELEPHONE--Stay tuned.

I posted last year that my flue in the burn chamber burnt away and got no where with Craig. Well this year my Midwest sprung a leak in the front I found a working number for Craig he did answer and acted interested in my problem asking for pictures and telling me to bet it fixed and he would cut me a check the next day. Well now he won't answer the phone he will however text tough talk. COUNT ME IN.

It might help someone else that has one if you describe the problems that you faced in a bit more detail.

Flue melts away first season. Just inside the door opening into the firebox upon inspection after season 1 cracks in the steel....as Todd mentioned there is a leak in the water jacket toward the front....not sure what else you would like to know but for a company that spouts off they are the #1 bioiler in the country and have a 20 warranty against all defects and includes labor...I'd say if the boiler has these problems in the first or second season and the owner won't fix or reply there should be something done.

I think the water jacket only surrounds the rear half of the firebox and that may be where the defect is,,,i am no specialist but when water surrounds part and no water around the rest could cause problems with temperature changes possibly..

these are flawed units. It was Midwest...now it's Synergy- same junk. same hack, Craig-  :bash:

Not only does the design and fabrication of these units have major flaws it is the dealing with Craig tat has me the most cranked off.I finally got a working cell number (not easy but can be done) he acted interested sent him pic. Of water running
Out the front of my unit his solution was that the water was coming out the top and stop putting water in it.come on do not insultinsult me,if I stop putting water in it it would melt down and I would be out of heat.found one of my cracks above the left hand corner of the door(when facing the door) Craig said find someone with a portable welder and fix it he would cut me a check the next day, well the next day I found another leak on the right hand corner of the door ,again get it welded when complete let him know ,cut me a check.when all done I told him 350 dollars 300 dollars for welding 50 dollars for insulation and boiler treatment,no charge for my time disassembly insulating and reassembley. No more answering the phone but willing to text me to let me know his warranty company will need more information and receipts. Told him (text him,he won't answer, remember)to give me the contact number and person name of so called warranty company then it went south from there(via text ,he still won't answer) by the way Craig if you don't want to be "talked to like some stupid town kid" man up an answer your phone.

So I purchased a Midwest 500 a few years back, this is my forth winter on it.  I did have some issues with it.  Mine has a smoke baffle that runs along the top, well in the first season that baffle warped and popped two of the welds.  I called Craig no less than 100 times, trying to get it straightened out.  His solution was to hire a local welder and he would send me a check, haha, right. I had a friend come over and he welded it back up. So now we are into season 2 and the welds on the other side popped and I nursed it through the winter. So over the summer I had a buddy build a baffle and another buddy weld it in. This time we made it out of 1/4 steel and made the tabs that weld to the fire box larger.  We also added a front trap door on the baffle to clean out ash, a design flaw that Midwest did not originally do. Season three, I started to think that the ash was laying in the baffle and super insulating it and that's why it was warping, not to mention how much better it drafts when all cleaned out. I thought I was out of the woods with all this, nope welds popped again.  Season four, well the summer before, it me, design flaw number two.  The firebox and smoke baffle cannot not be solidly attached to each other. The expansion from heat is just enough to keep popping welds.  So we welded tabs to the firebox and then hung the baffle to those with pins so it can all float about 3/16 of an inch.  I also had to add a 3/16 plate to the door because the firebox side of that was starting to warp.  Now I have water disappearing.  The last three years I don't think I put five gallons in it over the winter heating seasons.  Now I put 7-8 a month in, I can't believe that this is the year of mega evaporation!!  I know it is not leaking at our weld points because I would see it.  The first three seasons I kept calling Craig during all this and got no where. Finally I got resolution only I filed with the state and they started an investigation.  So last year I got a check for $200 to cover the baffle materials and such. I am going to have to investigate this water issue in the spring, I have a hunch it's leaking like the others.  I kinda drew the conclusion that I was on my own with this stove by year two. I guess the only good thing with all this is that all the pieces parts can be bought at grainger.  Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know, we can even chat by phone. I feel that there should be some form of restitution paid.

HERE WE GO AGAIN!! I got tied up listening to Craigs lies again and almost believed he would keep his word. Craig said that he is tired of my BS, imagine that. So I called the attorney I was talking to a while back and he suggested to gather as many JILTED Midwest/Synergy/Midwest Fabrication customers info and then we can move to the next step. please send me an email directly if you are one of the many they have ripped off. I have quite a few from my previous request but feel free to send again to be sure I have yours.

email to timberlakecrew@charter.net

Stay tuned here as I will do updates regarding these crooks.

The Slopster makes a very valid point, how about some pictures as well so the rest of us can actually see what the problems are. A picture is worth a thousand words....
