General Discussion / Re: Coyotes
« on: January 31, 2017, 07:53:31 PM »
So this evening , around 6:00pm, I head outside to put wood in the OWB for the night.  I turn on the lights to the back of the house, step outside and I'm serenaded by 4 or 5 coyotes perhaps no more than 100 feet for the house.  Man, that gave me the willies.  I believe it was fastest I've ever serviced the OWB; less than 5 minutes.  Generally it takes 5 but no more than 10 minutes to service it.  Roger

I have them to Roger never see them but I hear them they sound close
If I'd see them like you did I'd have the Willies too

Central Boiler / Re: Cleaning chimney on E-Classic 1400
« on: December 20, 2014, 06:10:10 AM »
Okay, I guess that settles it.  I'll leave it alone.  How's your 1400 running for you?  I experienced a minor glitch at fire up this fall but it seemed to have straightened itself out and running without a flaw.  Roger

Roger/Dan.
When I did mine I had a 6" chimney brush that I had bought from farm and fleet or Menards I'm sure they have them with 3 ft fiberglass rods that screw together depending how many you need for your stack height they bend if need to a little.        not sure how you and dans 1400 are but my 1450 the bottom portion of the I will say chimney box/removable door I will call it comes off on mine and fed my brush from the bottom up it was very easy to do. It was messy but I'm glad I did because I got a lot of it out mine but here again not sure if you have that option with yours.  The reason I did it is because being so close to my garage when their  was a east wind on occasion some of that soot would from the top of my stack would get on my garage and didn't  come off my siding very well also it doesn't run down outside of your stack
But here again depending on wood quality and dryness I only did mine probably twice through the winter season and when I put away for the summer.     I wish I had a picture too show but I don't sorry

Central Boiler / Re: Maxim 250 owners....

gmmaxim250 - I have an E-Classic 1400 Outdoor Wood Boiler by Central Boiler.  I know there will be a time when I'll be unable to handle firewood.  I've been keeping my eye on the CB Maxim's as a future replacement.  How do you do like you unit?  Is there any cleaning (weekly, monthly, etc...) during the heating season?  Do you have a large hopper attached to it or do you have to fill it everyday?  Thanks, Roger

Roger-I really like the unit, one of the reasons is because I didn't want to be handling wood in ten years.  it is like any solid fuel furnace, i check it every day.  it needs ashes removed every week during the burning season, and a heat exchanger cleaning every two or three weeks.  I try to break it down to clean everything at the beginning and the middle of the heating season...During the summer, it can creosote up a little, but when it starts burning hotter, it will take care of that.  I do have the bigger hopper, and that saves a lot of work, it is nice to load it only once or twice a month...depending on how cold it is...it was so cold last January, that I burned through a ton in a little more than ten days.  Fortunately, it usually runs two to three weeks on a ton of pellets from mid December to late march.  After that, it will begin stretch out.  I hope this helps answer some questions...

Hello gmmaxim
What is the cost of a ton of pellets roughly ?

Looks like its true I was on central boilers site the other day and spring of next year they are no longer going going to make the classics.   Not sure who to blame EPA or people complaining about outdoor wood stoves :bash:  :'(

Central Boiler / Re: Removable corner plates e1450
« on: November 02, 2014, 04:57:07 AM »
I do think the make a high heat one its cooper color !

Here's the copper

Nickel grade is in the 2000 range    I would say its worth a try can't hurt

When I had my 1450 the creosote runs into the corner and sits on the top lip of the front corner plates if you get that out first that's most of the resistance/your problem I would always pop mine out when it was pretty hot as soon as creosote cools it's much more difficult.    When I wanted mine out I would take the central boiler issued hoe turn on its side the flat part by the hoe and put under the lip of the corner plate and push down against the plate where the door shuts against.  and use as a leverage bar using your  own weight and she would pop out for me   I started using a hammer at first to get them out and it was to hot to  stick my face in there to see and  get a good swing and all that did was bend the corner plate lip it works but not the best option.

Hope I'm making sense

Good luck

Jack

Problem solved. Bottom panel of door was bent (who knows how or why) so it was not making contact with the door switch when the door was shut. I bent the panel back and now it works fine. I found this out while replacing the door switch. Door switch was only 5$ and very easy to install. It has ben running without problems for 24 hours. Thanks for the help guys.

PFD
Glad you figured it out.     Sorry had you going in wrong direction

What I did was insulated my ped lines in the basement and cut a wall switch in our master bathroom that controls the boiler circ pump. This way the house don't get hot on mild days and when she wants a hot shower she just flips the switch on and when she's done with the shower she turns it off. Works pretty slick

That's a good idea victor.     You have a plate exchanger I take it  not a side arm

Good job Roger on the cleaning.
Don't forgot about your exchanger tubes (7 on the 1450). and solenoids spray lubricant so they open and close freely also remove elbows on solenoids and clean out cresote    Also put some electric motor oil in the fan motor may have to remove to access.    Shut off main breaker for summer storm power surges and possible brown outs on hot summer demand days

I would double check all connections  do you have a underground splice        If not I wouldn't be concerned at this point on low water

St98
I scrape as much as I can if I get to bare metal great   I coat with motor oil to protect bare metal it's hard to get to bare metal usually just at bottom top and sides usually have a light film that can't get all the way clean   I worry about the corners and the bottom mainly where cresote sits and eats and holds moisture

Hey guys, ran my E-Classic 2400 all winter (second year) with no problems and I noticed today the FireStar is displaying d.o. and the door is shut in control arm is closed. Anyone had this issue before? The beeping still comes on/off and valve opens when I open the control arm. The door is sealed shut (no smoke coming out of the seal around the door). I shut the FireStar off and killed the power to the boiler with no results.  Any ideas? Thanks.

Hey PFD
With the door open in the corner of the door push the metal tab in and out does it click or pop in and out like its suppose too if not if it doesn't it's gummed up and not sensing your door closed take the 5/32 screws out and take that switch out and  spray it down and clean up mine has done that and I've cleaned it   I think when you burn longer pieces by the edge of door the cresote runs down by edge of door and gets in that door sensor switch.   Hope that helps.    P.s the control arm for the bypass has a different sensor it only activates the beeper to remind you it's open before you walk away
