Equipment / Re: Dump Trailer Battery?
« on: December 04, 2018, 06:47:38 PM »
I have been using a deep cycle battery from Walmart.  I don't charge it often, but it works with no problems.  Probably had it four years or so.

The GFI is there from the factory and has worked well thus far.  I don't think that moisture is the problem at this point, but I am open to all suggestions.  Thanks!  It seems to remain dry in the area of the outlet due to the heat from the firebox.

Hardy / GFI tripped from pump
« on: December 25, 2017, 09:16:08 PM »
A couple times recently my GFI on the back of my H2 has been tripped.  I figured the outlet needed replaced because it was original to the stove (2006).  I replaced it a couple days ago.  Tonight I came home and the GFI was tripped again.  When I reset it, it just tripped again.  I determined it is the pump tripping it.  Does anyone know a possible reason why it could be causing a trip.  I don't know if there is any correlation between when the water temp drops and the house furnace comes on as backup.  Any help would be appreciated.

I have it too.  I was wondering if it was something with my outdated computer or not.

They use so much salt in NE Ohio that it is showing up in the water.  The local newspapers ran the story a few months ago.

Who has decent PPE with decent prices? Looking for suggestions and opinions.  Chaps or pants? What does everyone use for safety glasses? They don't work well with ear muffs and I was looking for opinions on that as well. Thanks!

Is it more of a rope or is it flat?  I have opened that door probably thousands of times, but never noticed.

Hardy / Re: H4 insulation
« on: October 08, 2014, 07:27:12 AM »
I was wondering if anybody else has tried to do anything more efficient with the insulation on a hardy stove. I replaced all my insulation about 4 years ago and recently looked at my insulation on the sides and top and it was about 1/2" thick now. I am not sure what caused this just looking for better ideas.

What type of insulation did you use? I would like to upgrade mine as well, but did not know what to use without making the shell larger.

Hardy / Door Gasket
« on: October 08, 2014, 07:25:24 AM »
Has anyone replaced their door gasket?  I have a H2 that the gasket is not sealing well along to bottom. I have tried cleaning it to no avail.  I have a stove shop close by and did not know what size to get.  I didn't think it would matter if I used a "Hardy" brand vs. non. Any insight would be appreciated.

Why can't the moderators remove all the spam that has been posted lately?  It is getting worse every day.

As far as I know, Cub Cadet, MTD and Troy Bilt are all the same company.  Cub Cadet usually has a premium price it seems.  I have a Troy Bilt that is about 12 years old with no problems and it has sat outside at times longer than it should have.

I have a 120 gallon that sits against the house.  Here in Ohio, at least where I am, anything larger that 120 has to sit off the house.  I just got it filled this past fall after almost four years.  I think I paid $300 for the tank in 2005.  The only problem I have is that some companies won't fill for smaller amounts.
I only have it for backup or early/late season when the wood isn't burning yet.  No stove or dryer use with propane.

I notice about a $20-30 increase in my electric bill for hot water in the summer.  I have a Hardy and allow the water to flow through the coil in the woodburner so that it gets preheated slightly.  It is not worth the hassle of firing for hot water throughout the summer.

Hardy / Re: How many grates?
« on: August 12, 2013, 07:55:06 AM »
The biggest thing I have learned was not to let the ash get so high that it touches the grates.  That will cause it to get too hot and warp the grates.  You can also flip them over through the season which can make them last longer.
