Have I missed any discussions about adding an anode rod to our OWB like they use in Electric and gas domestic hot water heaters?  How many would I need to prevent rusting with 300+ gallons capacity?

How much does paint help prevent rusting and corrosion inside/outside of these steel tanks.

My Shaver 340 is leaking and i'm wondering about patching floorpan leaks versus replacing the entire floor sheet with thicker steel.

The circulation inside seems poorly thought out. The design returns and picks-up water from the very rear of stove.  There is a large plate from burn chamber that restricts water from flowing forward in the stove.

Its worked for last 4 yrs but seems now like I was losing most of efficiency due to poor circulation of water within the stove.

Lots of room for design improvements on this one.

Thoughts?

Shaver Furnace / Shaver Furnace Construction Questions
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:53:48 AM »
In New Hampshire - Shaver Pro Series Model 340 - 300+ gallons, 3 zones

I would like to speak with anyone who has replaced the floor pan on there shaver furnace.
Mine is leaking badly.  Is the floorpan welded to anything but the legs and sidewalls? Does the end plates of the burn chamber rest on the floor pan or weld to it?  If I cut the sidewall just above the wall/floor seam will a flat sheet of steel be able to reweld to new cut along the walls without any bending?

I saw a posting from a guy who just about rebuilt his shaver furnace.  All improvement suggestions that provide benefits are welcome. please respond to my posting.  I'm tearing it apart now.  The factory hasn't responded to repeated phone calls or emails.  I did all water tests and treatments.
I added electronic temp control and big fan with damper.

I'm looking to improve;
rusting issues & repairs
Has anyone experience with anode rods like in electric domestic H2O heaters-would it help?
insulation - spray foam , sheet foam or fiberglass
adding a drain plug
Improving return water plumbing

Thanks Jim

Shaver Furnace / Re: How I improved my shaver boiler model 290
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:52:01 AM »
I also have a leaky Shaver Furnace. Model 340. It was purchased in 2008 and installed in 2009.  The floor pan is leaking in multiple locations.  I did all required water treatments and tests.

I have questions on how the stove is constructed. My main question is whether the end plates of the firebox are welded to the floor pan.  My planned repair was to cutoff wheel or plasma cut the sides just above the factory side to floorpan weld.

I also am interested to speak with anyone who has done past repairs on a shaver furnace.  Is it bad steel or just where rust sits on the bottom during offseason.  Has anyone considered an anode rod like in a domestic hot water heater?  Would this help?

The factory warranty sucks, they don't even return phone calls.  If you have a leaky Shaver furnace please send me your contact info and experience, I am starting a list to seek action.

Thanks Jim-NH
