Title: New splitter
Post by: Airgap on October 03, 2011, 11:35:29 AM
I know most of you will think I'm crazy, but I split about 99% of my wood by hand.

I enjoy the exercise, and it gives me a lot of stress relief, as long as my body holds up I'll keep swingin.

Anyway, I've been using regular mauls for years with normal results.

Lately, I've been reading about the Fiskars splitting mauls, and decided to order one to see if the hype was true.

Well it's better than I expected. Light, no vibration in the handle. Splits twice as good as any type of maul I've used. I actually look forward to using it.... :o

If anybody else likes mauls...They're worth the extra few bucks.

Hope all is well. We sold the business and relocated to northern Wisc.  Installed a Central Boiler CL 5036. Been running for three weeks now, this thing is so cool.

All is well, thanks. Are you starting up a new biz up there, or are you working for someone else?

A Central Boiler would have been my choice as well...People that don't have OWB's don't know what they're missing...

I built my own boiler last year. There's a thread with pics in the Home made section.

This forum has been a wealth of information. I just don't get on here much. It comes in spurts.

The PZ is a lot of moderator work and takes a lot of my internet time, but I like it.

Good to have more plumber son here too.....

I got the X27. The longest handle they have. When I first got it, it felt so light I had my doubts, but it cuts like butter. Speed combined with great engineering I guess.

My wife's uncle lives a couple miles away, and has a decent old splitter that works well. He offers to bring it over if I want.

It's good to know that it's there, but by the time I went and helped him hook it up and bring it over, and went through his safety seminar I could be halfway through by hand....

Airgap, is it the x27 axe or splitting axe?  Seems 2 are different

I have been thinking about getting one of them too. From what I have been able to figure out the only difference between the x25 and x27 is the handle length.
Where did you buy it?

The X-27 is a splitting axe with a 36" handle.

The X-25 has a 28" handle which would be too short for me.

i ordered mine from Bailey's online. Here is a link, I hope.

Im 5'10" tall, think the x-25 or x-27 would be better?  Not sure what they consider tall!

If you go to Home Depot and buy a splitting maul, it will come with a handle like the x-27. Or what I call a normal axe handle length. I could see where someone might like a little shorter handle though.

There seems to be something wrong with it. It doesn't have much power.

I just saw a ad in our monthly Electric company magazine for the DR.

http://www.drpower.com/twoStepInquiry.aspx?Name=Logsplitter_A&Redirect=true (http://www.drpower.com/twoStepInquiry.aspx?Name=Logsplitter_A&Redirect=true)

The wood looked like easy cuts in the video. It wouldn't stand up to the stuff I cut. Where others throw "Y" sections away, I'm happy to have a 25.5 ton splitter.
