Just went to check on my 2 month old heatmaster MF5000... Noticed water on the ground.. Then looked up at the water level float.. Level has dropped from 80% to 5%...I open the ash tray.. It was full of water.. Perfect spent all my money on this boiler and has sprang a leak in just under 3 months... What should I be doing at this point.

Plumbing / Help with one cold room
« on: December 02, 2014, 06:38:38 AM »
I currently have a heatmaster mf5000...connected to a forced air furnace that is heating my home great.. Only problem is I have  one extremely cold Room my living room is always cold.. It's a sunk in room two steps down from the main house with a crawl space underneath.. It feels as tho all the cold air is sinking from the main house to this room. Would love to add some under floor heating in this room.. Someone has suggested to me to cut into the main boiler return line and tee off a loop with a small rec. Pump and run a single pex loop under the floor of this room then tee back into the main boiler return line about 20 past the original boiler return tee.
Would this setup work.. Or would I be wasting my time.. My hope is not to really heat the room.. Just warm it up a little.. As the room already has the forced air furnace heating it.

Thanks for all the help

Plumbing / Sidearm question
« on: September 29, 2014, 08:51:35 PM »

I have the following sidearm installation and for the life of me have no idea what's going on... If I turn the valve on at the top of the sidearm even with a full tank of hot water all I get out of my fixtures is pure cold water. Diagram is the same as install exactly.. Last year I was going to install sidearm into the pressure relief valve on side of tank to see if things would get better but have been told since my sidearm is as tall as my tank the water going up then back down to pressure release . Valve the thermal action will not take place.. Sidearm is working and will fill the tank with hot water.. My problem is that I just can't get the water out of the tank to use it.. Some how the cold water feed from the bottom is finding a easier path to my faucets.. I have read about some anti siphon valve in the tank on the hot water outlet.. Could this b the cause of my problem... Thanks for all the help.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Wasser Pump anyone
« on: September 27, 2014, 07:56:48 PM »
Had a Wasser Gpd25-10sf on my old boiler that sprang a leak..Pump ran with reduced water for a day.  I think it was ruined in the process as I have plugged it in briefly (few seconds) will not start on speed 1 or speed 2...on speed 3 which is high it will run for about 5 seconds then it sounds like it locks up..So to make a long story short I think I need a new pump...Should i buy the same Wasser pump locally which I believe I paid 260 or buy something better like a Grundfos 26-99 three speed.
thanks for the help

Plumbing / sidearm..will it work if
« on: September 27, 2014, 07:42:58 PM »
In the process of installing new heatmaster owb...want to get my sidearm working.  The sidearm was in the house when I bought it and has never worked.   I plan on re plumbing it into the pressure relief valve with a TEE fitting.. My question is the side arm heater is as tall as the hot water heater so water will have to travel up the sidearm then will drop about 8 inches back down to the pressure relief tee I install...Is that fine...also I seem to be finding mixed info on the boiler port connections...Mine has been installed with the supply on the bottom and the return on the top. thanks for all the help

Totally new to the owb world.. It's been a week of - 20 to - 30 weather here and the old wood boiler is keeping the house warm..But the furnace fan blowing across the heat exchanger is running about 20 hours a day.. I have the aquastat set at 170..is there any advantage to turn it any higher.. This boiler is extremely old.. Want it to last the whole winter if I turned it up to 180 would it hurt it in any way.. Is it safer for longevity reason to run it at a cooler temp.. As I stated it's heating the house fine just burning lots of wood.  Thanks for any help or insight.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Checking temperature
« on: December 12, 2013, 08:28:19 AM »
Hey.. Want to find out my temp drop on my under ground lines.. I have no gauges  on the lines. If I get one of those none contact temp guns will it work alright for reading boiler inlet and outlet temps.. If I take a reading off the metal couplings that couple the pex to the hard piping.. Thanks for the help.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Side arm heater question
« on: October 29, 2013, 06:41:34 PM »
Just got my first two weeks of heating with an owb under my belt.. Now that everything is going great I want to fire up my sidearm heater.

The problem I'm having is I turn the tank breaker off.. Open the valve that is connected between the outlet of the sidearm and the top of the hot water tank.. Let the sidearm do its thing for a day or so.. And when I go to use the hot water.. I get really hot water for about 30 seconds then nothing but cold water after that.. But if I run down to the basement and close the valve that connect the outlet of the sidearm to the hot side of the hot water tank.. I get a full. 50gallons of piping hot water.   So now I'm in a cycle of opening the sidearm valve to heat the tank.. Go down stairs close the value to Use the tank.

Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

Just moved into a new house that has a Dahl Ds500 owb.. Have searched the Internet high and low and have found any info.. Would really appreciate it if someone could direct me to a means to a manual on the thing.. At this stage it's sitting empty and was drained/winterized with glycol in the lines..
Thanks for any and all help.
