General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: heater hose

I have 3/4 heater hose from my plate exchanger over to my furnace heat exchanger and it works great.

I second the DHW as a favorite.

My gasser has smoke bypass but doesn't work.  Once you open the door and create a huge opening the smoke is coming out the door and not going up a 6" bypass.

Fire Wood / Re: help choosing best log splitter
« on: September 05, 2013, 02:12:39 PM »
I have Northern's 37 ton log splitter and has a Honda motor(I thinks about 10 hp).  It starts very easy and will split anything and has quality parts on it.

BUT;  it is big and heavy and hard to move around by hand.   Also it is too balanced on the axle, meaning no tongue weight.  So, when you are pushing it by hand and you hit a small twig or hole with a tire, the tongue wants to come up and hit you in the chin. Also, you have to use the drop leg to keep it from tipping when you split horizontally.

A friend has a Yard Machine 20 ton splitter that is much lighter and does almost everything my Northern splitter does.  It is much easier to manhandle  around the yard too.  And about half the price.

That being said.  Make sure you buy one with some type of log extractor on the cylinder so it will push off a stuck log when it retracts.

DO NOT buy a log splitter from Harbor  Freight  Tools!  you will regret it.  been there.

Heatmor / Re: Question for Heatmor owners
« on: August 17, 2013, 03:19:40 PM »
thank you for the answer.
So is there a filler plate between the grate and the sides of the firebox?  The grates are just in the middle and it looks like you would throw wood in there and the small pieces would fall down onto the sand.

Heatmor / Question for Heatmor owners
« on: August 16, 2013, 10:00:09 AM »
So, I was at the Iowa state fair yesterday and saw the Heatmor display stoves.

I noticed that you could see the ground inside the fire box, like there is no bottom to the stove.  Is it sealed once you buy one or do you have to somehow seal the bottom yourself?

« on: April 04, 2013, 09:50:27 PM »
hey, a friend of mine is putting his house in urbandale, ia up for sale and moving to macksburg, ia.  We saw your ad for the Empyre 250.
First, do you still have it for sale?  Can you send pictures to racnruss@hotmail.com? How old? And what are the blower tubes that were replaced? Do you have a price in mind?
thanks, Russ.

Equipment / Re: huskee or still saw
« on: February 21, 2013, 05:33:41 PM »
Buy the saw that has the hottest girls in the skimpiest clothes on their calender.  If she is rubbed down in Amsoil, all the better.

that's great!

I own a tree service and have used most brands and models.  Now we use Husky exclusively except for pole saws which are echo for greatest reach.

Stihl and Husky are both good brands as long as you buy the pro(stihl)or xp(husky) series.  They cost more but well worth it.

I love it when someone tells me that they have had a saw for 20 years.  I wish saws had hour meters.
