General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Sealing Basement Wall
« on: October 31, 2014, 06:39:49 PM »
I am working on installing my P&M BL 28-40. We live in an old farmhouse built in 1780. It has the old stone foundation with a cement block wall built inside of it. I had a 9" hole bored through the wall ( it was almost 3' thick) that I plan on running the my logstar owb. pipe, 3 - 1" well pipes, 2 - 1" pvc. electrical conduits, and 1 - 1 1/2" pvc electrical conduit. The way my house is situated I only have access to one small area on the north side to run all my mechanicals into the basement. What would be the best way to attempt to seal this mass of pipes?
I had to make the hole 42" below grade to ensure that the water lines don't freeze. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Sequoya 3400
« on: March 04, 2014, 05:57:05 PM »
Someone selling a Sequoya 3400 wood boiler that was purchased new but never installed.
Asking price is 8k. (paid 12k new) Any opinions on these units? It's been listed for quite awhile and I wonder if the price is to high.
I did an internet search and could not find any dealers for this brand.
Any info would be appreciated.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Newbie with questions
« on: December 18, 2013, 05:15:26 PM »
Hello Everyone,

We are in the process of purchasing a farm in southern New England.
It has close to thirty acres that are wooded. (plenty of wood available) The home is approx. 2800 sq. ' was built in the late 1800s but has been updated with new windows insulation etc. We will be constructing a 30x 50  metal building to be used for equipment storage / produce packing shed. We also will be adding a small poly greenhouse approx. 20x30 that we would to heat as well.
I am looking at Woodmaster as they have a dealership in our area.
Looking for advice regarding the following.

1) Size of the unit.
a) Looking at either the woodmaster 4500 or 5500
b) I know  we don't want an undersize unit, but what are the disadvantages of an oversized unit?

2) Best system for the metal building (radiant in the concrete or ceiling mounted fan unit)

3) Opinions on woodmaster units.

4) Any other general advice.

We will not be taking possession of the property till Feb. and would be looking to install in the summer/ fall of 2014.
