Outdoor Wood Furnace Info

My set up consist of a Legend 4135 OWF, Carport, PJ 14 foot dump trailer, John Deere 310 Backhoe, Troy Built 27 ton log splitter, 2 - Husqvarna 455 chainsaws, 1 - Husqvarna 460 chainsaw, and a Kawasaki mule. All of the equipment listed is also used on the farm for other purposes. I have my own supply of wood and try to cut it three years in advance. The smaller wood under the carport was cut for a indoor insert before I decided to go with a OWF. Now I split it much larger as seen in the trailer. I usually cut some wood in the fall and some in the spring and do it all by myself. I usually burn 4 or so cords a winter, but this year I will likely burn 6 being it was about the coldest winter I remember. This is my 3rd winter with the OWF. I heat a 3500 sq ft house (70 - 72 during the day and 68 at night) and a 30 x 40 garage (when needed) and my hot water. Should have bought one 20 years ago!! :bash:

And before you ask about the red light - It comes on when my OWF blower is running. As you can see, the blower is running but very little smoke coming out of the stack - I credit that to good dry wood and I also have to give Legend some credit also!!

That's the kind of stories we need to hear, congratulations, burn wood, it's good!!!! Not sure that carport would work well up here though!

HAAAAAA..... This is pretty cool, that sounds like a really good system you have. 3500 square on 6 cord is sweet...... Do you have anymore details on your load and system. I like the trailer....

i read on the net that winter temps there are in the 30's at night and 40 's and 50's in the daytime...her in ontario with weather like that it aint worth starting the stove ;D

Not to completely derail the thread, how do you like the John Deere 310?
We have a very old and really tired JD400 backhoe we've discussed trading up.

I bought the JD 310 4x4 from a guy that put in septic tanks for a living. It was in excellent condition. It had 6??? hours on it. I believe it has about 7500 on it now. The only thing I did to it was change a couple of pins and put a new muffler on it. It is one of those things you never knew how you did without it. I also have forks with it. I do believe this and I have heard it before - If you are going to buy a backhoe, get a 4x4. That is such a true statement.

WE keep talking about trading up, but we don't use it near as much as we used to. Father bought a mini excavator for side jobs and thats real handy other than it has to be trailered everywhere.
The most use the 400 sees anymore is stacking around 1500 round bales a year.

when u going to drop that trailer off at my place ??? .... I know people with ....outside odb's... running with temps 30 below 24/ 7 for weeks

Very nice setup. I hope to do something similar when I do my new install at this house. I want to put all of my wood on concrete and use a carport to cover it. I plan on putting 2x10 sides on the carport about 5' up with spaces in between and dumping wood in front of the carport and pushing it in with my tractor. I hate stacking wood.

I hate stacking wood too, but it just takes up so much room if you don't. I look at it as exercise ;D

Exercise will kill you. If you absolutely must, it's best done 12oz at a time.
