I don't know your system, but if your circ pump runs 24/7 like mine, I have a 10 plate hx intalled into my domestic hot water line "after" my propane hot water heater. This way, faucet gets turned on in the house......instant hot water.....all day long. Do not put the hx before the tank. No need to heat water to let sit or mix with cold water in tank. I just turn off my propane to my tank when OWB is burning.

I have heard that you dont need a circ pump on the side arm and that it will gravity feed?True?I found a tube type hx, 6''x48''that was used as a oil cooler. The pipe connections are 1 1/2''. I know that most water heaters have 3/4'' fittings so Ill have to reduced to that size. Also does the boiler water go through the tubes or around the tubes?

Is the side arm hx home made or is it a tube type?

And how much did the side arm cost?

Cool, thanks for the reply. I have a tube type hx that is 6'' x 36''.I was wondering if that would work as well as the sidearm type?Is the sidearm use more due to cost or does it work better?
