General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Winter

Stop blowing that snow our way then.

Been looking at blowers for my tractor, how do you like yours?
I bought a Frontier, sold by John Deere. I got a good deal on a new leftover 2016 model. Only got to try it a couple of times and the snow was wet and heavy. I could not believe how far this blower blew the snow. Works better then I could have ever imagine. Paid $3750, had a hydraulic turn spout and a hydraulic spout deflector.

You guys got it all wrong. I live in WIS. Usually have bad winters. In fact, when I was nee high to a grasshopper, it was nothing for the temp. to get to 30 below F. for a week straight, and berried in snow. A couple of years ago, we were getting 6-8" of snow ever other day. I had snow piled up almost 20' high and 40' long. This year I bough a 72" rear snowblower for my tractor, usually only used a blade, what a difference. Seems I chased all the snow to the east coast. We are now running, according to the weatherman, about 2'-3' below normal. Sure glad I bought a snowblower.

HeatMaster / Re: Central Wisconsin Dealers

Any heat master dealers in operation around central Wisconsin (Appleton/Fondulac area) I could take a look at one.
If you live around Fond Du Lac, I'm just south of there, about 15 miles and have a HM 10000e I just installed last Aug. You can come and look at one in action. I'm not a dealer but my dealer live in Neosho,WI. I got a great deal on the 10000e. Another dealer is Pineview Woodstoves LLC
He has a used HM 10000e for sale that looks like new.

HeatMaster / Re: Backdraft!

I got a good video of a fairly large backdraft this morning.  Check it out!

That's what happens when the stove just shuts down and there is no bypass. I had that happen when it was still running. There is so much unburned gas in the firebox. I just open the door to the notch. Filling only works if it is running, because there is so much smoke coming out the door you can't even breath to get wood in it.

Plumbing / Re: Side arm not impressed any suggestions

I've had a side arm on water heater for 17 years and never ran out of hot water. I heard that if you do run out of hot water, an easy fix would be to install a Taco 006 pump to aid in the circulation to keep your water hot. Taco makes that pump just for that reason. It pumps at a low volume and keeps the water in the water heater moving.

If you think 54 is  old, wait till you hit 65, just a couple of months away for me. And I can still keep up with the 30 year old's as long as I get my noon nap in!

Just picked up my Heatmaster 10000e on Friday. Dealer told me it was in the US at a dealer or warehouse up north in WI. He said it didn't have to be in the US before the 15th of May. Just had to be made before the 15th. I checked the date and it was made in April. I'll be installing it next summer, one more year with the CB. Dealer also said he would tell the company that I will not be using it until next fall and the warranty won't start until then. Looks like a big improvement over the old 17 year old CB. And I did get it for $9,050.

I'm still waiting on my dealer. I contacted him a week ago and he said there was a delay in the shipment, and it would be here in a week. Still waiting. I don't know where he is getting it from or if he is giving me the runaround. Dealer up north, about a 7 hour drive, has about 4 or 5 MF10000e on hand. I going to contact my dealer to see what is up.

Crown Royal / Re: Boiler settings
« on: September 05, 2015, 09:14:15 AM »
Just was wondering if you keep your pump running? I heard some pumps only come on when the boiler is calling for heat or the house is calling for heat. If you do have your pumps running constantly, what is the high temp. you have the boiler set at? 180-185 should be enough to keep the house warm or your boiler is undersized.

Central Boiler / Re: Edge

I've had my CB for 16 years and it has preformed great. But the new CB seems to be concentrating on all the high teck stuff. I'm replacing my CB next summer with a HeatMaster MF10000e. I looked at at-least 10-12 different makes and found good and bad in all of them. I liked the HeatMaster the best. You don't need all the fancy gismos to run a boiler, they won't put the wood in for you.
Unless it is a commercial application and not heating a house, you better buy it now. You will not be able to buy a new one next year and probably getting hard to find any left now.
Got my order in and will be buying before Dec. deadline.

Just made the deal with the Heatmaster dealer on a MF10000e for $9,050 if I pick it up. Only a 28 mile drive. He has 2 other people buying and is giving us a deal because he is saving on shipping. I don't know where he is getting them from but he know about the EPA law and I don't think he would try to sell one illegibly.  I'm going to install next summer and run the old CB one more year. The dealer has a guy that buys old boilers and fixes them up and resells them. The dealer got $1600 for his old Taylor and will give me his number when I pick up the Heatmaster. Hope I can get close to that price for mine.

Sorry for your loss Slim. It's hard to lose a member of the family. Pets are always loyal. There is and old saying, lock your wife and dog in the trunk of a car and after a 1/2 hour, see which one is glad to see you. I've lost a lot of old friends in the last 60 years and it never gets any easier.

17 years ago I thought that I might have that problem too, replacing the pex underground. I used a 6" sewer pipe and buried the pipe then pulled the pex through it. Turns out I had to replace the lines after 10 years because the pex turned to be so brittle that as I pulled out the old lines (had a rope on the other end) the lines just snapped like glass as I pulled them out. I couldn't get more than 3' out at a time before they snapped. The new lines from CB was the insulated lines with the Styrofoam insulation in it similar to Logstor.  The old lines had the insulation on the outside and the pex on the inside.  The new pex went in like a charm no snags.
