Well, I do believe...
« on: February 13, 2016, 10:43:01 AM »

That winter has arrived in NH.  According to the Weather Channel website, it's only 10 degrees outside with a stiff breeze of 12MPH.  Tonight is supposed to be -21 with 15MPH to 20MPH wind.  Thankfully, I'm nice and toasty warm in my house.  And, that the wind is supposed to subside during the day tomorrow.  Granted, it's going to be cold Monday morning with negative temps but it won't feel as bad without those dang winds.  Tuesday the temps are to be in the 40's.  Go figure.  Roger

I work, err have a job  ;), at an Ivy League institution where we have a lot of students from countries where their winters never get below 60F, never mind when it hits freezing.  When the temps get to 50 they complain of the cold.  I do my best to cheer them up by telling them that it'll get much colder.  They cannot fathom temps below zero F.  I have also told them that there will be a time during the winter when the temps reach 30 - 40 degrees F and it will feel warm.  They only become believers when they experience it first hand.  Roger

I was sitting in jolly old England during the winter when the polar vortex was the huge thing on the news. Was 52 there and windchill of -40 at home. None of them could grasp it as we go at christmas and her aunt has still had roses in bloom in the garden. Told em -40 F is the exact same as -40 C, still got a dumb look.

-14 right now with a stiff 20 mph wind, gusting to 30 anyway, brought back nightmares(memories) of last winter. 70 in the house. Over and out!

well the t-stat says 0 outside the back door. just filled the boiler with nice dry oak and a couple big cherry rounds. not very nice out in that 20+ mph wind but the old house is 70 or better. Oh and my oil tank gauge hasn't moved yet ;D

I filled the OWB at 4:00pm yesterday afternoon before leaving to have dinner with one of my brothers.  This is the first time that I can remember having filled it to the top.  At 5:00am this morning (outdoor temp was -18 and a very strong north wind) there was enough left to go another 30 to 40 minutes before being down to only coals.  I'm impressed with this thing but if it decided to get colder or stronger winds I doubt it would have gone 13 hours, perhaps it would have been okay at 12 hours.  But, overall I'm happy with it.  Roger
