Central Boiler / Re: does my 6048 have a fan in it?
« on: December 22, 2008, 03:02:18 PM »
I have a little buzzing noise coming from the door.  The damper was shut for the first time today and I listened for that buzzing and it was gone.  I have no idea what noise could be coming from the roof though...?

It's not a steam leak or something is it...?

That might have been it.  I came home from work today and the temp was up to 180.  Maybe the bed of coals is what I needed.  After all... It's only been going for less than 48 hours or so... ::)

Did you figure out what the noise was?  I hear it on my 6048 also.  Is that the noise of the relay holding the door open?

Central Boiler / Newbie Questions
« on: December 21, 2008, 10:06:08 PM »
So this is my first couple of days using my 6048 Central Boiler.  I fill it with wood, leave the door open a while to get it going, and let the temp get to about 160 or so.  I shut the door and leave.  I come back in about an hour and it's up to 165.  Makes sense to me...

About 3-4 hours later, I come back and the temp is down to like 135.  I open the door and the wood is barely burnt...?  I think I checked and the damper setting was 185.  I can hear the door is open every time I come out there.  And I know it's open because I can see through it.
Is this working normal....?

What temp should it be at, I would think it would try to keep itself at the setting which I think was factory set at 185.  I'm using nice dry wood, but it's not split, some is about 12-15 inches around and most are cut to 12-24 inches long.

Site Suggestions / Re: Manufacturer List
« on: December 20, 2008, 10:46:06 PM »
I know I'm a newbie to the site, but I've been around forums for a while so I thought I'd put in my .02 also...

I like the idea of having manufacturer sections, but I'm also afraid of someone in the Shaver section, posting a tip or design on their... let's say plumbing layout or zone valve or whatever, and because I have a Classic, I may miss that bit if info.

Probably not since I'll be clicking on the "Show unread posts since last visit" link every time I log on, but some people may not know about that link.

I also feel there should be a section for plumbing since I think it's a big part of the system and is common to all makes and models of OWB's.  There's alot of different parts to consider:  Mixing valves, Pex, zone valves, pumps, design, fasteners, leak testing....

Either way, I'm just glad I found this site, and I hope more do as well.  I know I've learned a ton of stuff from forums, and am expecting to learn from this one as well.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: What did you use?
« on: December 20, 2008, 10:30:36 PM »
I just got my Classic 6048 up and running.  I'm using the Thermopex.  Got it for 10.00 foot, from an old guy who's giving up being a dealer.  The cheapest I found it around here was 10.98/foot so I'm ok with that price.  I didn't know about the gravel thing under it but great idea.  Right now it's laying on the ground and buried under todays snowfall.  I'll dig a trench in the spring.

I'm sure glad I found this site!  I bet I'll learn lots form you all!

Thanks in advance.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Mixing valve Questions?
« on: December 20, 2008, 10:18:32 PM »
Yeah it was the first time it's had a fire in it... There was air still in the lines. :bash:

We got it heating the floor now, at least it's starting to.

Right now it's just hooked up to the radiant lines in the floor, so the mixing valve is in that setup,  I wasn't aware that the future line to the furnace heat exchanger shouldn't be in there though... makes sense though...  Thanks for that info.

I should post a pic of my setup so you guys can tell me what I'm doing wrong.  Is there a certain section for that?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Mixing valve Questions?
« on: December 20, 2008, 10:24:37 AM »
I just fired my Classic 6048 up for the first time last night.  I'm not getting it to circulate very well though...
I'm confused as to how the mixing valve works.  It has a setting of 1-6 on it.  Is it possbile that the water is going throught the valve and skipping the rest of the system?  What should I start with?
I wish I would have put a regular valve on there just so I could close it and figure out how it works.
