Equipment / Troy Bilt Log Splitter Troubleshooting
« on: March 02, 2015, 05:04:07 PM »
I have a 27 ton Troy Bilt Log Splitter that has never given me a problem in 7 -8  years.  It is a two stage.  Today it seems the Slow Stage didn't have any power.  It would only split something easy.
Hydro oil level is fine.
I'm thinking it is bypassing Hydro fluid somewhere.  The speed of the cylinder is good except when it starts to split something a little tough.  After it finally splits a piece of wood, it does fine.
Any Ideas??

If you are having that much creosote, your wood is not as seasoned as it should be.

I've been reading post on this site for years and have seen where people make their own.  Some work and a lot wish they had bought the good stuff.  If it were me, I would try to find some good stuff already made up and not make my own.

Learn to do it by hand.  Put the bar in a vice and go at it.  You will never go back to a electric sharpener once you have mastered it!

I had a neighbor that had a fireplace insert and his upstairs stayed cold.  He put in a open floor vent in the upstairs just above the insert and it evened out the temps from upstairs to downstairs.  This may work for you.  You may could even put a fan with a thermostat in it.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Grounding OWB?
« on: November 19, 2014, 04:18:11 PM »
Just ground the main part of the OWF to the ground.  You don't need to tie into the electrical ground as it should be grounded to the OWF.  I just unscrewed a 3/4" nut on mine and wrapped a ground wire around that and and retightened the nut and hooked the other end to a ground rod.
