Acme Furnace Company / Solenoid/Flapper

I see that a lot of people like the flapper/solenoid. I have a few questions though...I have an ACME 340 and we heat two houses off of it. I know that in the early fall and late spring, we have a lot of problems with creosote. I think that the flapper would help this, but wouldn't it put out the fire if there was not a little bit of draft to keep it lit? Especially when it starts getting warm and the fan kicks on very rarely during the day time? Thanks in advance for you thoughts on this!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Half Grates

Why do some of the outdoor boilers only have grates that go half way back the firebox. I have seen this in ACME and Shaver? I am assuming it messes with the secondary burn? I have an ACME, and it sure would be nice to put another set of grates back further so that it would burn a lot better. I could probably load the thing a lot heavier as well. It does not burn things in the back very well...just kind of dries the coal out and then it will not burn because there are no oils left in it. Just thought I would get someone else's thoughts. Thanks in advance!
