I have the MF 5000. I was curious as to what water pump you guys are using? I am looking to buy a new pump to keep around as a backup.

I’ve got a Grundfos 26-99 thats over 15 years old, was used every winter for the first 13, is now on snow melt duty when required

Grundfos 26-99 for sure. Look around as prices very a lot. I picked up 2 last year for the price of one.

I've had good luck with the 3 speed Grundfos 15-58's, but you may need higher flow rates than these can provide.

More or less, where a 15-58 on high ends the 26-99 on low is the next step up.

That is a chinese knockoff of the Grundfos 26-99. I never use them but I have heard they hold up pretty good. (at least compared to other knockoffs)
Do you happen to have a watt meter? I would be interested to see how much power those pumps use.

I'm running the badger as well. I'm running two actually. I had one pump go out just before the 1 year warranty expired. With the help of my dealer, I got it replaced painlessly. I'm in my 4th season now with these pumps and crossing my fingers every day. They are noisy. I need a bigger pump, so my next pump will likely be a Taco 011 or a larger Grundfos. I lay awake sometimes waiting for my badgers to die.

Agree, they will replace them under warranty but crossing fingers gets tiresome. Often it seems the problem is in the 3spd control, but just replaced a one a year old that runs off and on for no reason.

Anyone use the broeder pumps? I have had one going for 2 years and one as a back up. I also have a stiebel eltron pump that had high regards. Anyone use one of those? I haven't yet fired it up.

I try to talk people out of using them whenever possible. When they are wanting to order cartridges, it is hard though because of the cost.
They are not very reliable but if you got 2 years already then you are probably good. I think it is something in the water that kills them.
The other problem with them is that they suck a lot of power. In some cases it is way over the label rating.

Well now I have one more to burn up. The one on my stove came with it so I decided to run it. It has been noisy since day one. It hasn't ever given up even with a 200 foot loop and 22 head feet. Going to run the other broeder for the garage loop when that gets installed. I was debating between that broeder or the badger since both are cheap.
Anything on the Eltron? How are those pumps? It was about twice the cost and some for that. It is a 40gpm pump also.

I would guess that the only difference between the Eltron and Badger pumps is the label.

That's weird seeing as they cost 3 times as much. Eltron pumps are made in Europe along with their world class water heaters. Hope I didn't get ripped off!

Are you about that? The ones I looked at at Menards were made in China. If you look at pics of both, they both have the same part numbers on the labels.

Comes from, to me it doesn't matter as long as it works properly. Only reason I bought that Eltron was because their company has good ratings in their other electronic departments. I'm thinking I'm going to take your advise and return it and get something else.

Both the new broeder and Eltron pumps come this way as well. The broeder even comes with the electrical cord and stress retainer preinstalled. For 100 bucks I thought it was a decent deal seeing as my last broeder is still going after 2 years. I really hope my next one does too when I get the garage loop installed. I would have made a different decision if I would have known more about these things in the past. Live and learn.

If you paid $100 for a Broeder, it was either a refurb or they gave you a deal. Retail price on them is $195.

eBay my friend. Was brand new in box. Even made sure the screws didn't have the paint scratched off them. Looks to be genuine.

I am 95% sure it is the same as a Badger pump that costs much less and has better warranty. I have had better luck with US made pumps.
If you have not put a watt meter on your Broeder yet, I would suggest doing that to make sure it is not costing you more to use it than not.

I guess since no one else has said it, I use a Bell and Gosset NRF-36. Have ran it two years and I have a brand new one for spare. I run on speed 1 and had no trouble in 2 years.

I've heard good things. I actually bought an Armstrong and returned the broeder.
