Title: Maxim Thermal Valve leaking
Post by: gmmaxim250 on March 18, 2018, 06:02:09 PM
Question for anybody with knowledge of thermal valves on Maxims.
My maxim 250 thermal valve activated due to some clinker build up that I missed causing a back burn, I think.  However, the thermal valve continues to drip.  Any ideas?  If I have to replace the valve, the job just became even more of a problem.  I have cleaned the stove etc, but I can't put it together until the valve is functioning properly.  I am open to all suggestions.  Thanks for any ideas in advance.

I know absolutely nothing about the Maxims so I won't be of any help to you.  Other than calling your CB dealer, perhaps an internet search may offer a resolution for you.  Roger

I haven't had mine apart, but what about a shot or two of compressed air back up the hose?  I would imagine some particle of gunk is stuck on the valve seat?

Had to replace valve, it was gunked up pretty good.  Now that I have seen it done, and understand how it works, I am pretty sure I could do this the next time.  Hopefully, there won't be a next time.

Thanks for the update.  I hope this is a one time deal only too.  Roger

Is the "thermal valve" the same as a thermostatic valve ?  I have a thermostatic valve that also leaks around the seams when my water temp falls below 160.  Huge pain in the butt.  I am thinking about getting rid of it for next season....

The thermal valve is the valve that is controlled by the probe that is by the feed augor, if it gets hot, it opens the valve to release water through the burn chamber.  A mess.
