General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Power outage
« on: February 01, 2015, 02:06:44 PM »
I wished for storm too when I installed a generator four years ago.  It came generator went on, life was good, then it failed.  Power was out four days. Generator is good now but I don't wish for power outages anymore.

We burned around 19 last year due to the cold. I only know a chord as 4x4x8. So far this year around 8.

We get our own wood. Dump trailer stacked without sides 1.5 chords with sides 2.25 chords. So you cut the trees down buck em and load em.  Takes me about three hours unless the wife helps then 4.  After we bring it home we split it right out of the back of the trailer, maybe an hour, usually not the same day.  After we get done we just go about our weekend.

Burning has just been a part of my life since I was a child so it's just one of those things that's part of life. To me it's always been fun.

Central Boiler / Re: CB 6048 Water temp way too low!
« on: December 30, 2014, 05:04:16 PM »
I have the fan for my 6048 but never put it on. I think it was around 300.00 when I bought it last year.  I only bought it due to our state regs.

Did it bridge during the night?

I have the blower for the 6048 but never installed it. I need to have it on hand in case DEP stops by. I've only burnt last year and this year and it seems to recover pretty quick without it.

Last year it was about 18 cords, not face cords. Hopefully this year no more than 15.  It's a tractor bucket when I clean out.  It's a CB6048 so it has alot of room.

I'm thinking around Jan 1st which will give me about three months. Then one more time before May shutdown.

Plumbing / DHW Question
« on: December 06, 2014, 05:56:05 AM »
After reading the different takes on DHW I'm going with a plate exchanger before my electric water heater. I don't plan on running my furnace more than the seven months I need it. When I shut down would I just continue to run my cold water feed through the exchanger or do I install a bypass with a couple of valves?

Thanks

" PA is already the highest taxed state for the natural gas industry. "

I wasn't aware of that, could you direct me to a comparison tax table to other states?

Fire Wood / Re: 2013-2014 wood burned
« on: September 14, 2014, 06:07:03 PM »
Being my first year I'd fill the box twice a day regardless of weather. When spring came I'd put three logs in and be good for 12hours.  Think I could've used a lot less wood.

1300 sq ft. House, 2500' pole barn, CB 6048, exactly 7 months of running. Much colder than average winter. Northern PA.  13 cord oak and 4 cord white pine all seasoned. At least two cord wasted on inexperience.

Sounds easy enough. Thanks for your assistance!

Pardon my ignorance but I have another question(s)?  Would my well water then run into my heat exchanger then into my hot water line?  What is the normal temp of hot water in a house?  My electric hot water heater is only a couple years old and I don't want to replace it. It's got some funky connections that don't look like other people's who can bolt on a side arm.

Thanks

How many plates would you recommend?  I have a 50 in the house and a 70 in my garage.

Is there any way to just heat your water through an exchanger without having a hot water tank, and be hot enough?  Like an on demand system.
