Shaver Furnace / Re: Will Shaver be around after EPA Regs change
« on: February 15, 2015, 09:53:30 PM »
what warrenty
Exactly.
They have expedited bad behavior before, why would we expect anything different now. There are a number of states that have passed or will pass bills blocking state agencies from enforcing the epa mandate. This will give some cover for companies who wish to break federal law. Virginia is one of these states which is one of the reasons I closed down my company. I can't compete against "black market" conventional furnaces when I would be selling only gassifiers.

HeatMaster / Re: Anyone burning sawdust
« on: February 14, 2015, 10:00:18 PM »
We burn lots of chips and sawdust. The key is getting air up through the fuel load. Its near zero here tonight and wind gusts up to 40mph, I probably got about 40% sawdust in my fuel load for the night.

I wish things were different but I'm leaving at the end of this month. Who knows what the future holds, maybe another opportunity will come along and I can reenter the wood burning field.

I had a MF4000 this year that had the same problem. Guy called me and explained the situation. I told him I would stop in the next time I was in the area. Several days later I stopped by and in 10 minutes I was back on the road. If a dealer installed it I suspect they wouldn't have an issue fixing it so long as it doesn't require a special trip. I look at it as the best advertising $$$$ a guy can spend because you know the owner will tell all his buddies about the dealer that came right out and addressed his issue.

Yep just some high temp silicone and you will be as good as new. Why not call the dealer and make him come do it? If its a new stove they should fix you up at no charge I would think.

General Discussion / Re: EPA Defunded-Will Their Policy be altered?
« on: December 15, 2014, 08:53:25 PM »
Having no money for enforcement WILL NOT stop them from creating rules that they cannot afford to enforce!
Exactly! If the regs come out but little enforcement follows what is a decent dealer or manufacturer to do? IMO the decent folks will attempt to follow the law and the less trustworthy people will find a loophole or ignore the law all together. If there are going to be rules I certainly hope they force everyone to play by them just to keep a level playing field.

My fear is it may not help with enforcement which I believe will really be bad for the decent dealers.

Heatmor / Re: 409 SS vs. Mild Steel
« on: December 14, 2014, 05:34:54 PM »
I have sold hundreds of furnaces built with 409 and have had very very few problems.

Oh I'm sure, and I'm also sure the manufacturers have all the tricks figured out how to properly form and weld 409, for the average or even above average person working out of their garage or shop, 409 may not be the best choice compared to common ole mild steel.
Yes I wouldn't recommend building a home made furnace out of 409 unless you were a very experienced welder/fabricator.

HeatMaster / Re: heatmaster c series
« on: December 13, 2014, 11:48:26 AM »
The C models are really not that very different than the MF models. Different size and shape of firebox is the main thing. The C modela and MF models both can burn wood or coal, the c model really isn't better at burning coal then the MF models.

HeatMaster / Re: heatmeater 5000 fan speed
« on: December 01, 2014, 12:29:56 AM »
It just adjusts the amount of air that flows into the fire. On the more efficient models there is the extra bypasses to capture the heat produced if you burn the fire hotter by giving it more air.

Wait,  are you talking about fan speed or the damper setting. Damper settings can be adjusted depending on what works best for you. But on the models that had the dimmer switch to control fan speed they should always be left on 100%.
If you are talking about the adjustable dampers in the back I normally recommend starting a E or C model on 100% and the standard MF models on 50%.

100% or you take a chance of replacing a fan.

I burned a Heatmaster G100 as well as a G200, both are phase2 furnaces. I have also burned 5 different conventional models. Personally I lean toward a conventional furnace simply because I like to burn everything including green wood. Now if I was only going to burn dry split wood then I would definitely go with a gasifier.

I was under the impression that there was more info coming out this month as well. I haven't seen anything new lately. But with my decision to try and stop selling my current brand by the first of the year I really haven't been looking too closely.
