I see there is a model 500 and a model 850.  Does anyone out there know the price on them?

I got my answer.  After a little research I found Mainly Custom in Lyman Maine (Closest Portage and Main dealer for me).  I sent a request for more info on the unit.  He called me today and we had quite an interesting conversation.  He is sold on the unit and plans to install one for himself.  He is also the one who had the demo set up at the Fryeburg Fair.  The price tag is pretty high at around $29.5k for the 500k btu unit, complete and set up + $1.5k for delivery.  So a total of $31k.   (If that doesn't scare you, the 800k btu model is somewhere around $85k.)  What I like most is how self-sufficient the unit is.  Little clean-up, no creosote and even at high output he said it will last at least 3 days on a fill-up and much longer at low output.  Oh, and he expects that they will be certified in Maine in the next week.  They are just waiting to hear the official word.  He told me that even if Maine doesn't approve it, he would sell them anyway and he and Portage and Main would back to unit in writing.  If anyone complains about smoke, they would take the unit back for full refund.  It all sounds great on paper.  It certainly has my interest though.  I run my home and several greenhouses using 2 OWB's and 40 cord of wood per season that I buy treelength and process myself.  Takes up much of my summer/fall and sometimes into winter.  I'd love to regain some of my life back.

Yeah, Richard is quite a talker.  Kept me on the phone for 48 minutes.  I think he was really hoping to sign me up.  I'd love to.  But I have some homework to do and (quite frankly) have some pennies to save.

Richard is a good man.  He installed my Optimizer 250 last fall and then attached it to our pool this summer.  I would recommend him, his work, and P&M to anyone in the market in the northeast.

Thanks Matt.  Good to know.  It looks like the ideal setup for me.  Just might be a couple of years before I can work it into the budget.
